FAO People in the RAF pt.2
Right having been to the AFCO and got all the forms, I've filled them in and sent them back.
Next step I take it, is the tests?
Aptitude, fitness then a medical?
Aptitude I am not worried about, Fitness I am
What is the fitness test? is it just the 1.5 mile timed run? I work out a bit but after running a mile the other day it seems my body can't take it without getting very very tired. In other words I had to stop at 1 mile because I was gonna be sick.
How do you combat this, just general running and training or anything else?
Cheers.

If its the same as the Navy, then its just a mile and a half at a set time, time depending on your age. The younger you are the less time you get. You can also do a bleep test, again different levels for different ages.
As for getting better.........."Run Forest Run"

exactly the same here mate, read the site and saw 1.5 mile in 13 minutes so i thought i'd give it a crack, oh dear just under a mile and i was bolloxed
started doing just under a mile as a circuit to try and build it up, cna do it now without feeling ill but still havent increased the distance, but i've timed it at 5 mins 45 secs so if i can keep going i reckon i can crack 1.5 in 13 mins.
Keep at mate

You will have to do the run under 13 minutes, unless you are a bit alder. The following are the required entry times.
MALE FEMALE
15 - 24 12 min 20 secs 14 min 35 secs
25 -29 12 min 48 secs 15 min 13 secs
30 - 34 13 min 18 secs 15 min 55 secs
35 - 39 13 min 49 secs 16 min 40 secs
These times reduce once you are in the forces. So if you are under 24 then I suggest that you aim for between ten and eleven minutes so you are ready for your basic training.
Once your in.
15 - 24 11 min 13 secs 13 min 15 secs
25 -29 11 min 38 secs 13 min 50 secs
30 - 34 12 min 05 secs 14 min 28 secs
35 - 39 12 min 34 secs 15 min 09 secs
These are for the Royal Navy, I am pretty sure that these will be the same for the RAF.

Whats the RAF's recruiting views on drugs? Ie. if you smoke a bit of dope when you were younger in high school, not much and not for long, simply experimental, Will they still refuse you

ok,but we dont do a mile and a half run in the raf! its a bleep test then press ups and situps! i didnt have to do any fitness prior to joining up (1999) but hey, maybe u do now,but once youre in there is no mile and a half, just a bleep test, which is HARDER! id far rather do a mile and a half! but practise is all you can do!

If its equal gender oppurtunitys for the forces these days how come women get longer to do the runs? If you cant run for 20 minutes on a treadmill at 5mph there is no point applying until you can do so.

even the oldest men in the raf have to run further than the youngest fittest women! and why?because they are women, utter crap, they are expected to do EXACTLY the same job but dont have to be as fit or strong,in my trade we dont differentiate between men and women when carrying stuff or giving out jobs! i think its sexism gone mad,a small difference yes,but they get off FAR too easily,im not mega fit but reckon i could pass their test without bothering to change into fitness gear as i wouldnt even break a sweat!

we have been talking about this at work today and its a very simple answer women might be not as strong naturaly but we can only go at the slowest pace of the slowest member of a group so why do we need to do more

exactly! bullets dont travel any slower if they are shot at a woman i am afraid! and they get the same money as me so should be up to the same standards, its equality, nothing else!
