The Sport ones are 4x4 and based on the Mondeo chassis and are sweet, so Alex, you're talking bollocks .

 

no mike they are based on a lincon towncar chassis


the mondeo does not have a 4x4 platform

I can assure you it uses the Mondeo platform . The rear arms are off the Mondeo estate, and we have one as a company car - the chassis is EXCELLENT, but as good as the handling is (which it ALWAYS gets bigged up by ALL the motoring press ), the brakes are shit for a car of it's performance.

 

oh the design team at ford I worked with must have been wrong lol

there are common parts but the floor pan isnt lol


and I thought the handleing was abismal both on road and on track!

Well ours and all the Press cars must have had the suspension sorted . I have never taken it on track, so couldn't comment on that . Lots of the suspension items are shared with the Mondeo according to not only the original launch reports, but the engineers I have talked to (hence I know about the rear arms ).

 

A mate has the 3.0 sport x-type and its an auto.

the car is a 51 plate and has had a new gearbox in it and may need another one!

car only done about 40k too.

Been informed that this is a major issue with them and they did replace the boxes on most cars.

excellent car, handles like superbly and average over 30mpg all the time on the computer

have heard the 3.0 is a lot thirstier though

 

Driven a 2.5 sport and was quite impressed with the handling, but it felt too much like a Mondeo to drive, and not enough like a Jag.

my wife has a 2.5 liter (193bhp, V6) in NYC... quite nice car and quite sporty i would say. excellent sound effects and nice ride even in long trips. When it snows the car is quite impressive, since it has DSC... I believe the 3.0 liter is nicer...

and yes its a mondeo platform... in New York they call it "an overpriced ford" for a joke..., but i say bc is a ford is better....
