Default Track cars question ??

When ever i see a picture in someones sig or just a general picture of there car going round a track there is nearly always a head light missing?

Also if there the right on is missing the left one has black tape on it which leads me to belive the tape was shit and it fell off

This is a daft question i know but its bugging me

Cheers ben

people generally remove theheadlight to get a good flow of air straight onto the filter

and i believe the tape is in case the lens breaks through contact with other cars etc, it holds the glass and stops it fragmenting all over the track

Always makes me laugh to see them take their headlights out, is it actually going to make a shit of difference?

When I was at croft I struggled with my water temperatures getting too high. I removed the bonnet vent and headlight and it made just enough difference to keep the temps down.

That's fine, but a lot of 'em do it to make the car faster

Especially at Santa pod

It might make a difference on the A1 Rallysport Fiesta, but not a Saxo VTR

Agreed.

At high speed, I can't imagine it helps a great deal, ramming all that air under the bonnet, and not allowing it to exit the engine bay in anyway.

Not really.

The heat will rise out of the bonnet, but that ram effect under the bonnet is probably not the best idea.........

Plus it will ruin the aerodynamics at speed and you might actually go slower down the straights

nothing wrong with that ..

also there are some modifications that you can do to allow all that nice hot air to escape from under the bonnet .. without lifting the back of the bonnet

I was advised to do this at the last track day - and space the back of the bonnet up with washers but i don't think i'll bother unless i have an actual track car to use in the future
