Default Mounting an engine...

Heres the scenario....

1 x golf rallye 4 wheel drive
1 x Cosworth engine.

The original rallye engine is mounted transversely, the cossie isnt. Bearing in mind the rallye already has a tunnel of sorts being a 4x4, what problems would you expect to encouter when trying to mount a cossie lump in it? or infact mounting any engine into a bay it wasnt supposed to be in.

muchos gracias

Biggest ballache you will have is getting the cossie box to physically mate up to the gearbox / clutch i should think.

Physcally mounting the engine that way round isnt a problem at all, same as in the mondeo cossie FWD i just bought recently for example.

Obivously that means custom downpipe etc though!

Isnt the audi 4wd gear based on a longitudinal engine layout?

I honestly dont know about audi running gear. By ballache with the box, do you mean due to physically not having enough space there? or something else?

i realise i'll need some fabrication done and custom parts, but is it gonna be a headache to the point that you wouldnt bother doing it?

Rudester.. how goes it mate was thinking of more just an out an out weapon lol! i know a lot of the dub boys are into 20vt and TT conversions, just thought i'd see about something different.

What i mean is that the box is probably a physically different size to the T5 bellhousing the cossie one mates up to, so its not going to bolt together, likewise the spline probably wont fit the clutch.

Going to be a lot of hassle to do it just to end up with an engine thats not any better than a 20VT engine that would bolt straight up

Personally, i wouldnt bother TBH

Allow 3k plus to have someone do the fabrication and engineering work done properly.

Complete and total waste of time IMO.

No-one, but let's put it back where it came from - i.e. the closet of stupid fucking ideas that you only think about when you're 17 and dreaming

Need the tunnel fabricated to be much bigger so the gearbox will fit, as the engine and transmisison is transverse on a Golf Ralleye, longditudley on a cossie.

Dont bother, youve got a good 4x4 transmisison there, and quality engine choices that go straight in, like the 1.8 20V turbo.

Why tear up a good Golf Ralleye either? Better starting with a base model Mk2 Golf.

glad to hear it Rudester

Steve, i prefer the rallye to ordinary golf, and IF i was going to do it, i'd wanna do it in a car i actually liked lol! But it would seem that it would be a lot of ballache, so maybe not lol! I just love the cossie engine, so i i could put it in another car without too much bother, why not? best of both worlds

PON.... Bollocks

Cola... Thanks
