Default Focus Steering - Floppy?

Recently noticed my 53 plate (2year old) ST170 steering seems light/loose/almost skidding for about 1/4 turn to the right (only) on the steering wheel, thought it was just me imagining things, but the other day my missus said a similar thing to me about it when she drives. It seems to brake and accelerate in a dead straight line, except when driving steady in a straight line you can get a loose kinda unerving feeling through the wheel sometimes?

Also - the front wheels are rubbing occasionaly into a dip on the inner arch somewhere, could this affect/cause the above or be a knackered strut or something.

Any ideas?

I had a problem similar to this on my Escort, turned out to be a loose bolt holding the steering rack allowing the Rack to move about, and a bit of play in the steering. Could be other things aswell, but give it a check anyway

Hmmm... maybe a common problem then.

Its still under warranty so will defo get them to check it out but its kinda hard to explain the feeling through the wheel.

Had new tyres recently and seem to be wearing evenly, if this makes a difference.

NEVER! the ride height of the ST is quite high and i would be worried if it touched the arches for any reason. Sounds like you got a bent front arm or a duff shock or broken front spring. Get it in and get it sorted asap

I do find mine pulls alittle left or right if the road is uneven, but thats the width of the tyres that causes that.

Yeah - it never used to rub anywhere!

Just been out and had a push down on the wings and there really isn't must bounce in the shocks at all - the right hand one seems the worst for this. Would a dodgy shock lead to the steering doing the above you think?

Its done 38000, so i suppose shock could have gone - bet this ain't a warranty item - who was it that does those great coilover kits..
