De-Icing
Anybody got any tips for de-icing your car no these frosty mornings?
I used warm water this morning which worked pretty well but you have to use loads or it just freezes onto the glass
I've heard alsorts from sticking a sheet across the windscreen to putting a hot water bottle on the dash.
Wondered if anyone has some good tips?

Seems leaving the car running is the best/easiest solution then. Been tempted to do this but it's Japanese and automatically locks the doors when you start it
Like the idea of a heater with a timer.
That could be getting to work sorted then but how about getting home at 7pm when it's all iced up again?

Usually if you start the car with the door open it overides the auto locking function or has it a valet mode??

Not sure about the valet mode but I'll try to find out, didn't know about the door open feature I'll try it (with the spare fob ready )
Thanks for the advice!

same as dangerous!!! top notch heated front screen are!! and if your extra rushed use your wipers after its softened the ice!!
I used to go for the method of filling a 2 litre pop bottle up with really hot water from the tap - this is enough to do front and rear screen and round the sides without it freezing up. start your car first though so you can use the wipers so it doesnt freeze.
ive had cars that froze on the inside too and the above method sorts that too!

i work nights in a petrol station and park under the canopy were the frost dont affect my car! turbo timers are cool when set to screen heat too!
bank cards are not good ice scrapers! they tend to snap!
hot water /cold screen is bad news! did you guys never do science??? expansion, retraction etc!
mate puts clear polyphene bags over the screen! hardly noticeable! not as pikey as card and reusable/easy to carry! best bet me thinks

my TOAD Ai600 operated similar Chris.
what happens was if you started the car then it locked the doors.
if you unlocked the car but didnt open a door it would then lock itself again.
if you have a dodgy door sensor (interior light one) - which is highly likely if its the usual ford design - then it wont sense youve opened the door and will lock itself.
pour the water over the top of the roof to start - i've not had a screen crack doing it. its not boiling water and you pour it relatively slowly rather than chuck a bucket over
