I just stay in the house until about lunch time when it has defrosted

Although yesterday it got to 4pm and it was still iced up so I had to brave the cold and get the de-icer out so I could do something useful with my day

It's this time of year I regret having two track cars taking up the garage

I aren't sure, I don't have the original documentation for it. Importers must have fitted it when it came to the country,

I -do- know I have a broken door sensor though.

I know this because when you open the door the car beeps constantly to remind you (incase you haven't noticed) the door is open. Which is such a pain when working on it. So naturally I wedged something in the sensor to stop it beeping.

The shut the door and shattered the sensor

Start it up a good 10 mins before you leave, heat on full and heat rear screen (front too if your lucky)

well try this its the maunal for the Ai606 and towards the bottom is the sequence to disable auto locking (1-3)

Yeah I forgot it was broken until Melvin mention the sensor.

I'll look into if the alarm has a valet mode.

MWF, my car used to lock the doors as well, i just used to keep a spare ignition key in my wallet just in case, as once you have had to break the glass once you tend to learn from that mistake

Actually, just realised i still the key in my wallet now even though i sold the car

That's an idea, makes sense since your wallet, should always be in your pocket then.

I just can't bare the thought of locking both keys in the car and having to smash the window.

PMSL my mate had a clifford G4 and the doors autolock at (his pre set) 1.5k

The twats battery died and i jump started the car for him he proceed to rev the nuts off the car from the throttle cable in the engine bay and promptly locked the doors

start engine, press button for heated front screen

although my car is garaged overnight so dont have to do that

you can get heated washer jets!!

cant think which cars had them though - usually french ones I think

MK5 escorts have heated jets too, mine did was in same electric option pack as the heated front screen.

I'm pretty sure any Ford with a winter pack gets heated jets too.

On my Mini the screenwash tank was in the boot which meant the pipes ran down the whole car and would freeze as soon as winter kicked in.

I used to just use 100% soluble winter screen wash - which meant the washers would never freeze even in artic conditions and you could permentantly blind people standing by the road side.

hot screen is a muct, and from around 90 spec onwards, everything with heated screens got heated washer jets too (ok, so no one puts that screen wash anti freezing stuff in the washer bottle but you can't account for everything can you )

but on non ford cars without that option, the best way i've found is to spray hot water onto the screen and then dribble hot water over the wipers while they are working away
it softens the rubber which helps wipe away the frost (and i can't quite reach to the top fo the vito's windscreen

if you use cold water it just freezes as soon as it hits the screen

i've got a silver windscreen cover that you put on the nght before. don't know if you can get them here, i got mine in germany, but i assume so.

one of the best and cheapest things to put on your screen to stop it freezing is a layer of bubble wrap

That makes sense, just drive off with that attached and who cares if you can't see. Pedestrians you hit are spared serious injury due to the bubblewrap - genuis

Could do what my neighbour did the other year and just pour a kettle of boiling water over the windscreen

Wipe undiluted fairy liquid over the screen before you go inside, and use a windscreen wash that doesn't freeze. No ice, and the wash/wipe takes off the fairy liquid in a second......

nah, you've got it wrong - the bubbles are like loads of milk bottle bottoms, you see hundreds of pedestrians, and they're all massive

Then you drive off to work and the washer don't work, plus every car that goes the other whips up a load of dirt onto the windscreen which you can only smear across the glass with the wipers so you have to pull over and wipe it. Then later on the way home the process repeats itself except with you having to wipe the pathetic front lights too.

warm water is fine to use ad long as it's not still freezing and u leave it for too long

and obviously don't use boiling water or your screen WILL crack going from such cold temperatures to such hot all of a sudden

just warm enough to defrost it

Bags ect is all very well but what happens if its windy?

I just stick a sheet over my front windscreen and its big enough to dangle over half the front sides windows aswell so all i do in the morning is just scrape the back window abit pull the sheet off, get in and go, but normally 20 seconds up the road and i have to get out because ice has formed on the screen

Ahh, the usefulness of a garage AND remote-start! Not only is the car not frozen up, but it's toasty-warm when I get in it aswell!

I can't believe no-one has mentioned getting a can of de-icer. £1 something for a winter?

Start car, put heater/rear demist on, spray front first then sides and back, get in, wipers on, drive off. Easy.

Even if you have don't have a can and have to use a scraper it takes seconds, and as you leave the screen fairly dry by doing that, it won't re-freeze.
