chip whot are you on about?
On one hand lots of rs500 were used in motorsport, and hence probably crashed, dminishing numbers, but on the other hand, a lot of those have been reshelled into new shells and hence still exist
NO RS500 ROAD CARS WHERE USED FOR BUILDING GROUP A SIERRA TOURING CARS, THEY USED NEW MOTORSPORT SHELLS FROM FORD WITH NO SUN ROOF.
WHY WOULD THEY BUY A ROAD CAR AND FROW ALL THE BITS AWAY?

Looking at the claims of the owner if they are true then I think it's fair to say the car is very special from the point of view of being almost entirely new.
But there is a member here (forget his username) with a white 3dr which seems in as good, if not better, condition.

And there's people out there who can't even get £4K for a good low mileage Saff at the moment...

Mike,
you also forgot the gearbox and diff it needs for it to put down the 550bhp.
We are currently saving up for a Quaife box n diff from bernie for the engine Karl is doing for us.

Back to the LC/RS500 Debate
Ive seen 3 differnet LC's over the last 2 weeks in Cumbria - The last time a saw An RS500 was at RSOC Day in the summer at Heavs Hall
LC'S are not as rare as RS 500's IMO

2. The standard diff and gearbox is acceptable on a T4 500bhp car providing i) You don't EVER launch it (and I do mean EVER, the first time you do, will see the planet gears in several pieces ) ii) The box is low mileage and in good condition, it will last 20-30k between rebuilds if i) is adhered to .
Chip,
LC's only come in one colour .

How the hell would he know it was 3 different Green LC's not the same one 3 times unless he wrote the number plate down each time!

2. i was advised otherwise - box is ok to 470bhp without launching and diff would be fine without launching.
However, not taking the chance, hence the saving for the Bernie box and diff

from what i read in the litriture (and the LC dealer being just over the road from me) there were 1440 all in built
the majority of these were left hookers though
and i've seen a fair few (but i live near the dealer and i was wasted by one a few years back when they were new )
built in 1993? how come the dealer had a H plater in his showroom then?
anyway, let's find out how many 500's are left and then we can see how many LC's are left, it's better than playing "I spy" ain't it

Mike,
Well Karl runs a lot more than he recommends through standard boxes, and they survive (albeit for VERY short periods of time ). So 500bhp is okay for slightly longer periods....
My OE gearbox (with 100+k miles on), lasted 1k miles with 500bhp . The next one (a low mileage example out of a concourse car ), did 20k, but by the time the car's life ended, was noisy as fuck. When the car was rebuilt, I think it lasted another few k before dieing a horrible Irish death .
As you say - belt and braces job is what you are doing .

I think the key thing Mike is missing is that a very large percentage of RS500's ended up staying in the UK (i think they were ALL rhd werent they?) where as only a tiny percentage of the LC's did.

Personally i have seen more RS500's than LC's but obivously it depends on if there are a group of ford enthusiasts or vauxhall enthusiasts living in the area.
Anyone living near a big cossie tuner probably sees RS500's almost daily!
