Anyone a BT Engineer?
Or Know about multiple phone line wiring.
Want to have 6 telephone points around the new house, how do i go about it?
Just slap a junction box on where the phone line comes into the house? and then sprout 6 wires off that?
Or is there another way?

use the power of a mighty search engine
basically, where the cable (just 2 wires) comes into the house you must have a master socket with capacitor that gets the ringer. then you need 3 wires to each extension socket. whether you do them in series, paralel, or a mixture, doesn't matter

house is currently being plastered and boarded so seems pointless to do it after or external when the wires can go behind the walls.
just wondered as regards signal strength
and how its done.

no it doesn't weaken the signal, cos they're not all used at the same time.
there is a limit to how many phones can be on one line though - each phone has it's own rating.
personally, i would go cordless. you only need one base station (or 2 if you need to cover a large area, have thick walls etc) and several hansets can be registered to those base stations.

yes matey dect is digital cordless
i think it stands for digitally encrypted cordless telephone
the modern phones now let you add base stations onto the main phone needing only one phone line
the main phone for us is in the living room whiles theres one in my room, one in the kitchen and one in the garage
and its no crackling or fuzz or shite plus they have intercoms between each handset which is very handy

4 is really enough, just was going to put telephone sockets in some of the spares room upstairs.
word to the wise, dont have 7 bedrooms, so many phone and areial points to put in

Ryan,
This should clear up things....
As a general rule (DIY), wire phones in PARALELL not SERIALLY
All phones will have what is called a REN number. (Ringer Equivalence Number)
This relates to the power required to make a phone ring when you get a call.
An average BT line is able to supply a REN of 4 normally.
ALL phones should display a REN number on it somewhere BY LAW !
Add up all the numbers and if is greater than REN 4 then it is possible that randomly
one or more of the phones may NOT ring when an incoming call occurs.
Also, this draws more power from the exchange and can cause the line
protection to kick in and kill the line in extreme cases.

well here`s a bt point of view...
you can run as many extensions as you want.. but on 4 phones will ring if a phone is in every socket..
most new builds have a box in every room and run parellel.. ie one box to another from the nte (bt main box)!!!
so best do it this way..
3 wires on the ext.. blue/white and white/blue for the line..
orange white as you bell wire!!!
good luck!!!

I would and i think Paul probly would n all eh?
BT will supply the NTE (main box) when the line is installed (if its yet to be installed) the extension sockets depending on size you want can be got from most DIY stores but id stay clear on the ones with small screw connections on the back as i fooking hate them and they always seem to fall out
the IDC versions are much better
if ya want any more help catch me on msn

Ryan I used to work for cable & Useless fitting phone lines and extensions, have a box up in the loft with loads of master sockets and extension boxes. Even have the proper tool for crimping in the extension wires.
Can bring it monday at the meet if you like? You wont get all six extension of the 1 master socket, only three wires max will crimp and hold so you are going to have to run some in serial. Also as said above make sure you buy phones with as low a REN value as possible.
Cheers
