Default Hissing BMW?

My old 24 valve touring sounds like there is a snake hiding under the passenger footwell every time i let off the throttle There is a 'thing' under there connected to a vacum pipe going to the engine and its really starting to piss me off
Anyone know what the 'thing' is? and is it supposed to be fookin hissing

It has nothing to do with fuel or air con or a reptile
Like i said there is a vacum pipe going to what looks like a small speaker grill but obviously not that lol!

Thats sounds about right mate
But why does it have a vacum pipe connected that hisses every time i let off the throttle

Don't think so mate but there might be?
I heard the hissing and so pulled the glove box out as it was coming from behind there. I found a pipe had come off this 'thing' and was hissing. I connected it back on and it now hisses through the 'thing' lol
