Hi All,
Saw xFactor's post on tyres so thought I'd add another question.....
Will need some new tyres for front for next year and wondered which out of the two you'd pick for the road/track? Anyone got experience with both?
Looked at both and Kumho's seem to be half the price of the Toyo's. Info appreciated

They're completely different tyres though aren't they?
I ran the Khumo Ecsta on the cossie, good road tyre
The R888 are a full on track day tyres tho, had them on the S16, outstanding grip
, won't last long though

Aaah, that's the info I was after guys. Basically what yuo are saying is that the R888 is really only for track...although the toyo site says diff. That's fine....Kumho's it is![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Dunno if this helps but I've got Kumho Ecsta's on my E36 M3 & they aren't very special!! Do last for ages but shocking in the wet (could be partly my crap driving!!). Ok in the dry & they were the cheapest available so I guess you get what you pay for.

Luckily I can read german but even if you can't you should be able to look at the comparison charts and work out how the individual makes do in the various disciplines.
Normal road tyres are titled "Strassenreifen" in the charts - the car was a rwd BMW E46
Track tyre test
Thought it might interest some on here?

Ive had two sets and cant rate them high enough for what they cost!
Great in the wet on the roads. I find them quiet noisey though.
Run flat two.

Edited to add -: Just had a look and the KU31 seems to be a normal high performance road tyre rather than the track biased road legal V70A which seemed to do the worst out of the ones tested in the wet.

See my many and numerous posts about R888s - I use them on my Cossie and Pug Mi16, on road and extensively on track.
I love em, and contary to popular myth they are not bad in the wet - just not as good as full normal road tyres. I imagine the same can be said for the Kumhos as well.
They are surprisingly good in the damp, and they excel on track - I have spare 'road tyres' on another set of wheels for both cars - BUT I have not used them at all as the R888s remain on the cars year round.
What size are you after? I can give you an idea on price if you want - I personally think compared to most 'track day tyres' they are CHEAP. Take the Dunlop D02Gs for example - anything up to double the price on some sizes, and certainly not double the performance.

Si,
Just thought the test would interest people who are after some cheap track tyres - seems to indicate the Kumhos are pretty good in the dry - just like the Toyos. Certainly wouldn't bother me how poor they were in the wet really as they are bound not to be as good as something like an F1 in very wet conditions.
You don't see many tyre tests these days and certainly not many for track type tyres.

I use R888's on my Cossie but find them too harsh for the road, i have 2 sets of wheels, Yoko parada's for the road & R888 for trackdays. I really rate the R888's for the track so much grip, fantastic tyre !

Thought this test was interesting as it was on a heavy rwd saloon and had wet weather tests as well.

Admittedly, they can go off quite quickly after a number of hot laps on track, but mine have done 4 events now and still have plenty of meat left.

Dave,
Was running them at Donington the other weekend at ND.
In the wet, pretty slippery but not as bad as my old Avon ACB10's.
In the dry VERY good grip, took slightly longer to get them upto temperature than what I am used too, and also went off slightly quicker than the previous tyres I ran. BUT the time in between was superb...
