What car to give lessons in...?
I need to buy a car this week to start giving driving lessons in & it comes down to a choice of 2
1, new shape ford fiesta TDCi
2, MG ZR
I want to get summat slightly sporty -as i think it will attract alot of young people to have lessons in it.
What do you people reckon?
Anyone know much about the MG ZR's?

So the MG's a no no as the learners are gonna be bouncing it off kerbs etc & it might fall apart
I was thinking about a new mini cooper but the speedo's in the middle of the dash & i thought 'not ideal for learners'??
I've been offered Ł50 an hour to give lessons in the evo

I had a Primera GT which was brand new to learn in back in 97. Went like a rocket for a learner car and was big as well. Focus is a good choice IMO.

don't get a Diesel, get a petrol and LPG it.
my old man used to teach people to drive in a Daewoo Matiz 800cc and on LPG - fun it wasn't, cheap it was. 100mpg anyone?

The other way to look is all the mums and dads who are paying for little johnny to learn, dont want the driving instructor turning up in an Evo!
Corsa, Fiesta, Focus - run of the mill stuff and just dont name your company "speedy learning", AJ's go faster school of motoring", "learn to flocking drive"

ok i wouldnt cos i already passed, but you get my theory...
dont get a new focus, they are shit! drove a few and dont like em at all, and the new tdci ones are slow as piss.
IMO as said, the ST TDCi would be a good bet

A lot of learners are put off by big cars even ones as big as the MG so Id say fiesta, its smallish, and they wont be ashamed to be seen in it by their mates

I was thinking about the Fiesta TDCi for my learners when I get me badge, only on Part 2 at the mo so won't be getting just yet, so I'd be interested in what car you eventually go for AJ.
Other cars I though about are:
The new Clio?
Citroen C2
Peugeot 107
Honda Jazz (Which I'm doing my training in at the mo)

Bunch of kids obsessed with cars, who are prepared to spend every penny of their disposable income (which is high cause they live with their mum) on learning to drive, and cause they are such racer wannabees they will all fail their test ten times and keep coming back.
Driving instrcutors dream surely?

Not necessarily as it's more expensive to run these cars and harder to insure them for learners, and the cost of all this this all comes out of the ADI's wages, so the the cheaper the car is to run the better.
