FAO Skyline brains Question
Mate is jabbering on about getting an R33 GTR and is telling everyone that he'll tune it to 500bhp and it's a doddle on these. I would think it's not as easy as he's making out.
What parts would be required and at what sort of cost to get one to that level and how would the transmission fair?

But I would like to know what is needed to take a stock r33 gtr and go upto 500bhp.
Basically i would like to do this to mine. would like to know what mods are required, as im in the research process, etc.
pm me if you like.
A few opinions would be good.

Air filters
ideally 550cc inj but Middlehursts 500 conversion uses std 444cc ones
Steel internalled std turbos running 1.2 bar wont quite do 500hp IIRC
Step 1 drop in cams
chip/remap/power fc/boost controller
Recommended
steel headgasket
oil cooler
uprated clutch
I can recommend RB Motorsport as Rods engines last unlike some "specialists" who are no more than enthusiasts claiming to be experts.

thanx for the info cam, looks like I better get shopping, I already have a decat pipe and hks exhaust to fit, need to get the rest done now.
Also can you suggest any other mods I can do whilst the engine may come out, i.e oil relocation kit etc

Ideally for a set of forged pistons/steel headgasket would be wise for long term reliability but it starts getting expensive.
I have an HKS suction kit for sale but dont know if 33 and 34 fitments are the same.
Like I said Rod is the man to ask as he will not try and sell you gear you don't need plus he is the GTR mapping God.

Well so far I have gathered the following:
hks steel internal new turbos. direct replacement for standrad items,
r&b decat pipe, hks exhaust, hks blow off valves.
I dont mind getting the parts as I have a few contacts in the trade and also there is some good deals to be had in the second hand market etc.
I also have a brand new gt35/40r turbo with hks external wastegate, is it not worth going single turbo conversion with this??
As for forged pistons etc Cam are not selling a set?
If I go to that extent I my as well replace oil pump etc
thanx for the info guys

I sold the JE pistons this afternoon
An uprated oil pump is a very good idea but the best one (Tomei with side mount pressure relief valve) is over a grand. Many owners on GTR reg recommend a 7000-7250 rev limit with std pump and after spinning a shell at 8400rpm due to cavitation/pump failure on std pump I'm inclined to agree. 500hp and not revving the bollox out of your motor you should be OK but if you like caning it within an inch of its life I'd advise a pump.
When you get to the level where you are changing pump its worth considering buying another lump that someones spent on tbh (just like with Cossies). There is a guy selling a new steel bottom end for Ł2200 on the GTR reg.
