Damo, the phono plug is most certainly for hooking it up to the computer. You need a male phono plug and a DB9 or whatever them old mouse plugs were called.

Ive made a similar loom to my monitor but fitted the female phono in the dash so easily can plug in the datatransfer cable.

If you dont want to make you own lead I think Autronic sells them as they use the same cable for ECU-PC communication.

Andreas

Cool cheers... so basically the same as the serial port thing I have on the monitor loom.. cheers

Mike

Yeah as above, I run Ver 6.25e

switch 1 appears to do nothing
2 ON gives oil pressure
3 ON gives EGT's
4 Appears to do nothing
5 works by the looks of it (store or not store error codes on start-up)
6 When its on, the battery voltage displayed drops to around 1.9-2V and I get an error code stating Low battery voltage... Dunno what the hell thats for??
7 appears to do nothing??
8 ON for fuel pressure displayed

so it could be 1 4 or 7 I guess??... maybe a combination?

There is possibly hope yet for me having peak recall then .

On version 2.2
1 Switch to on for peak readings, switch to off for continuous
2 Switch to on for logging to start on power up
3 Switch to on for ECU "air" modification (No idea )
4 Swicth to on for high speed logging (10 times a second) or off for normal speed
5 Switch to on to hold in memory error codes. Off for normal operation
6, 7 & 8 Not used

yes it's just the 28 pin chip in a socket in the back, don't think 6.60 can do peak recall

Fingers crossed that it will at least give an indication of unusually low oil or fuel pressure, even if the nominal values aren't right - let us (well me 'cause I'm interested) know. Similarly, Stu, have you got a warning light output sorted for the fuel and oils pressures ?

i don't know about the alarms yet, i have warning lights on the monitor which come on under various conditions such as coolant>110degC

but i don't know if there are any ready programmed on fuel or oil as open circuit they read full range of over 15 bar...

Got the 3.12 software version in mine.

Anyone got an explanation for the different fault codes?

Today I got a CRANK/CAM SENSOR US3 and ive seen other values ie US1, US2 in the past, on different sensors. Just curious what US1, US2 and US3 mean?

Funny that Stu, 'cause I can't see one of those in my monitor.....I took the back off to see how hard it would be to remote-mount the screen, when I remembered about that chip you sent me, so I thought I'd check to see what version was in my monitor at the same time.

What do you reckon is going on here then ?

Different style of chip, you have the PLCC(square one), which i have seen in a monitor once before, most use the old school DIL eproms though, guess yours is a later hardware version
I don't have the adaptor for my programmer to do those as yet

Ive got the same square chip in mine with version 3.12 (Bought from Mountune back in the days....)

That board with the potentiometers are for the LCD, I had to fit a extra one to get the text to show up properly when I bought a new LCD so perhaps they have fitted a newer LCD to yours?

Default Pectel monitors

Yes ur right Pi have bought Pectel and they do not support the engine monitor now. We have almost 10 years experience with both Pectel and Pi and have a most of the info for the monitors, pin outs, versions etc. We can also supply wiring for your monitors. As for "start up messages" BOREHAM, FIRST ETC, this was programmed upon original purchse. We can also supply Pectel specification engine wiring looms. Powerchips have reproduced this popular monitor and we are a distributor. e-mail for more info

Welcome to PF.

This sounds interesting, and I'm glad you've taken the trouble to post. I really hope you can help out some of the people who have posted on this thread (and others), and that some of your knowledge can become more general knowledge and remove some of the headscratching and hassle that you may have read about with regards some of the issues on this thread.

For example, do you have any info on which oil and fuel pressure senders are THE correct ones to give a meaningful display on the monitors? It would seem that there are 2 ranges on the monitors, depending on the software version (?). I've contacted VDO, as I was told that their senders are the ones to use, but their response hasn't really solved the issue - their sender's pressure/resistance curves don't really fit well with the monitor's calibration (checking the displayed value when using a variable resistor to replicate the sender).

Also, can you explain please if it is possible to set up and use a warning light (or more than one if possible for more than one channel) if one or more of the displayed values goes above or below a user-definable limit ?

Many thanks in advance if you can clear either of these issues up - and I'm sure if you do then there will be other queries to keep you busy.

Yep . But that is only for the 20 x 20 bit Nissan EPROMs used on certain monitors.
