Default Data Recovery Win 2K

Hi all

Does anyone know a way of retrieving data from a Windows 2000 computer that has had Windows 2000 installed on top of the old version?

To put it another way, had a guy at one site looking at crap websites and ended up with adware and spyware on his PC. He sent it down to me to clean. Normally I format but couldnt in this case as I couldnt delete the partition so installed over the top. Not a huge deal for us as they are being upgraded shortly but just didnt want the network infested.

Now this guy has been dismissed for gross misconduct and it seems the directors want to use the crap websites as extra amo incase he comes back at them.

Is there a way I can either remove my last version of 2K or get into the previous one as I didnt format nor delete any cookies.

The only way I know of is the use the Operating System selection at start up but not sure if that will give me the desired results. I am at home so havent been able to try it at work.

Sorry for the long post and any help appreciated guys

I would asume douments and settings should be there from the first install,

system files would be over writin so you will have no luck there.

you could send the hard drive to one of those data recovery ppl

if you did a "new install" then its probably formatted the original partition before starting afresh. if you done a repair then the original stuff is still their.

and if its the first option chance of getting anything back is zilch as it will have physically written over the original data

i sent a hard drive away to a recovery firm a few years back cost well over a grand but that had only been formatted and not written on again so was ok to get the stuff back
