dingy,
i get between 10 and 15 per gallon, cause people who cruise with 400bhp and greys are fucking pussies.....

wtf have 400bhp and be worried about the fuel bill....

i would be worried and do about the fuel consumption in the rally car, not when on a stage but between stages , the more mpg i get the less i need to worry about having to get to service (or emergency service ) for fookin fuel

does your car actually have a problem with the fuelling ???

just asking as most other people say that the more mpg the better , the less likelyhood of over fuelling issues , yet you go on about all th extra fuel youve got ?????

LOL @ matt and Dingy.

If you both want to know your cars are mapped at 13:1 AFR at cruise, 11:1 on full boost, and obviously inbetween these values depending upon rpm/load.

You both have low comp highly modded engines with large ports and big cams and rightly so are running rather inefficiently when off boost. If you use the throttle you will use fuel and lots of it.

My car is mapped with the same strategy as yours (albeit on 1000cc injectors) and I run around 25mpg at cruise on the motorway, around 20mpg around town, and single figures when driven hard.

No mate it wont be much better.

You are all forgetting how much fuel a 400bhp engine consumes at WOT. Your talking no more than 3 - 5 mpg at WOT. Hence on track its normal to get well under 100 miles from a tank.

since my engine runs more power it drops to around 2mpg on track and hence 50 miles to a tank. This is of course driving the car to its absolute limit and VERY hard.

Stretch yours will be mapped as all my greys cars are, 13:1 @ cruise 11:1 on boost. The rest is down to your right foot.

karl, im so disappointed and disturbed ( ) about my fuel economy that in a bid to cure it ive closed the ports up with a hammer and changed the cams back to low lifters with the very same tool so now it cruises well, it coughs like a twat on boost though and dont seem as fast ROFL

rhys i hope your taking this all in pal

Stu, so your saying my car aint mapped right cause its not econmical ?

Interesting....

Ahmed map on blues on track is about 4mpg.....

i never had fuel in my oil, always had a good inspection of this, as it was usually changed after every track day.

If i did have fueling issues then the oil level would increase would it not.... ?

When u drive your car on cruise with 400bhp, its entirely up to you.....as i am getting used to my car again and making sure bits aint dropping off the rev clock stays about 6k so the fuel consumption stays @ 10-15 regardless of what a cock i am.....

Think you have issues with greys and your lambda map mate......i couldn't give a toss if you think my car aint mapped right, because i think its fucking brilliant.

If you can get 25mpg with me driving then your better than science mate

right, silly question ( I think ) would it be possible to map a cossie for a)max performance and b) max economy?
like 2 seperate maps on different boost levels? would it be safe to run a slightly leaner map knowing that in "economy mode" the engine wouldn't be getting used hard/ revved past 4500 RPM? just wondering as it would be ace to have a car that ran 500+bhp then sat at 40MPG on the motorway cruise :P

dingy,
Stu, so your saying my car aint mapped right cause its not econmical ?
Am i? I wasnt aware of that Dingy, why do you say that?

dingy,
Interesting....

Ahmed map on blues on track is about 4mpg.....
Im sure the relevance of that will dawn on me sometime, but for now, the relevance of an ahmed map on a racetrack to this topic about everyday fuel consumption evades me steve.... sorry.

dingy,
i never had fuel in my oil, always had a good inspection of this, as it was usually changed after every track day.
How do you intend to get borewash on a racetrack? Take the turbo off before you leave the pits?

dingy,
When u drive your car on cruise with 400bhp, its entirely up to you.....as i am getting used to my car again and making sure bits aint dropping off the rev clock stays about 6k
We are talking about cruising Steve, and if you cant cruise in your car for some reason why the fook are you butting into this topic when you admit youhave no experience worthy of input for it

dingy, Think you have issues with greys and your lambda map mate......i couldn't give a toss if you think my car aint mapped right, because i think its fucking brilliant.
Im sure your map is brilliant and im pleased your happy with it i really am. But i fail to see why that means you constantly have to dig at me.....

dingy,
If you can get 25mpg with me driving then your better than science mate
So you somehow drive at a constant 80mph differently to other folk do you? Perhaps driving instruction would be usefull...

dingy,
what a cock i am.....
I knew there would be at least one point we would agree on. Thats the one

My m8 Dave has a GEMS ecu on his Scooby, it has 2 separate maps. it has a low boost map, ignition retarded for running on low grade fuel, ie unleaded. And it has the proper map, running 1.3 bar with less retard for optimax etc. He sees amazing ecomomy, better than the standard car did! And thats proven! On the way down to England we got 350 miles to the tank. On the way back up with 120bhp more we got 400 miles! Mad..

BTW, GEMS has closed loop lamda.

BTW the topic was MPG with greys - as i have greys in the car, i was expressing an opinion....

The track with ahmed chip was an example of how little you get on track with light blues over greys, just as track days were mentioned.

Whats drivin @ 80 got to do with anything......you could be down the lanes @ 80 in third or on motorway in 6th.......

Its how you drive, i get 10-15 mpg in a cossie powered car on greys.....

Steve.. im referring to pretty much anytime you have any input in a post about mapping, you start to insinuate whatever i say is wrong, almost as though you had some idea what your talking about, which of course, you dont.

I dont know what ive done to piss you off, probably nothing, but its wearing this and becoming more annoying than tiresome, time to call it a day stevie..............................

How can u compare maps if u dont drive under the same conditions?
IMO, fuel economy is pretty irrelevant when booting it around, but very important when crusing - an EFi system should be able to take care of this???

MY old engine used to hold 210bhp at nearly 10%CO, yet returned 36mpg on a long trip on the mway.

you dont need a seperate map when its been mapped on closed loop. If you are just pottering about i;e up to 4 psi of boost or under 4k revs it runs in lambda so is very economical, however when you exceed these parameters it will fuel accordingly. And bore wash is not an old wives tale or whatever i know i,ve had it in the past through running a crap greys chip and it didn,t take very long either.

what about running better injectors like siemens. these injectors opens and closes 12 times faster than the bosch injectors do. but for the siemens injectors you have to use an another computer like autronics, secs or something. or am I wrong.
