Engine type: pushrod ? valves V-8 twin-turbo
Displacement: 6.0L (5972cc)
Power: 625 bhp
Torque: 630 lb.-ft.
Redline: 7000rpm
Transmission: 3 speed automatic

Although the W8's styling is more than twenty years old, the car is still an ocular magnet. Its snout is higher and longer than the current fashion and the body creases are too sharp, but like the late Lamborghini Countach, the Vector has a timeless visual appeal. The 3680-pound Vector is quick, with the twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-8 building boost and thrust quickly. Above 4000 rpm, the push is strong enough to make Vector's claim of 625 bhp (2 bhp less than the McLaren) believable. Acceleration was from 0-to-60 in 3.8 seconds and the quarter-mile in twelve seconds flat at 118 mph. It's hard to believe that in a car this powerfull they put a 3-speed automatic transmission. With a fine tuned 5-speed manual, this car would accelerate to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds and would run the quarter-mile in about 11.5 seconds or less

What other entirely American made car is capable of 0-60 times of 4.2 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.0 seconds at 124.0 MPH, top speed of 218 MPH? With construction and materials more in common with fighter jets than your average sportscar, the Vector W8 is truly one of a kind. The Vector is the dream machine of Gerald Wiegert. Concieved in 1971, and after winnning many financial battles, rolled off the production line in 1991 at the Vector Aeromotive Corporation factory in Wilmington, California. Since this time the company was purchased by an Indonesian group which also owned Lamborhini at the time. They produced the Vector M12 in Florida for a short time, which was powered by the Lamborghini V-12. The redesigned body lost all of the Vectors original character and soon production stopped. This article is a tribute to the truly great version of the Vector that once was built and now only exists in limited numbers. Most of which were bought by oil shieks and other foreigners.

ENGINE

This no expense spared 6.0 liter aluminum V-8 is a masterpiece in itself. Bolstered by twin Garrett turbochargers and fed through beautifully polished intercoolers, its output is staggering. 625 HP at 5700 rpm and 630 lb-ft at 4900 rpm. The engine begins life as an all aluminum 90-degree pushrod V-8, which is then mated to TRW forged pistons, Carrillo stainless-steel connecting rods, stainless-steel valves, roller rocker arms,a forged crank, a dry sump-oil system, and braided stainless-steel hoses. The intercoolers, which are exposed on the top of the engine bay, are removeable using four quick release aerospace clamps. The turbos are water-cooled Garretts. The boost is limited to a mild 7 psi. Each cylinder has its own coil for ignition, and fed through multi-sequential port injection. The transmission is a specially built 3-speed GM Turbo Hydra-matic. Every part has been specially machined to withstand the immense torque generated by this engine. The engine bay reveals the high attention to detail in the Vector. Every part in the vector is of aircraft quality or better. With its myriad of stainless steel hoses, polished: intakes, valve covers and intercoolers, its appearance is almost as loud as its bark.
