Driving fast on a public road.

Driving fast on a public road.
....we all do it,but does anyone think of the possible consequences? Are you one of those nutters that races along Southend sea front where loads are standing watching...do you just remain oblivious to the fact you could loose control and seriously injure/kill someone?..Fast cars are great aint they But do we think nothing bad will ever happen?
..Can you IMAGINE what it would be like to KILL an innocent person because of boy racing?....Not only will you go to prison rubbing shoulders with other murderers you will forever have the person you killed in your mind...unless you are a callous cock of course...but then you are already a murderer just waiting for it to happen.
..will this post make you think?Maybe for a couple of minutes...then tommorrow its off out ragging your 300bhp Cossie....we all guilty of this...and bollocks to the "i only speed where no one else is" people,as you DONT know 100% that!...The trouble with performance car owners is we all think we Colin Mcrae...but even he crashes......

The things people do at Southend are just pure and utter dangerous imo. Anyone who was at the Southend Meet this month would have seen me driving up and down, doing a couple of passenger ride, but all my "fast" driving was done down the quiet end where there was nobody standing around. I know that doesn't make it right, but some of the things people do in front of everyone is an accident waiting to happen.
I am surprised nobody has been killed yet.......

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
You have to have everything uve just said on your mind if your driving normally paying care & attention to the road.
It doesnt need a 300bhp cossie or excessive speed to kill people.
If you are in your frame of mind the only answer is to upturn the sofa in your living room and hide under it for the rest of your life hoping nothing you do bares consequence on anyone else.

The Southend meet has amased me that we haven't had a crash yet. We won't count the knobbers in the Fiesta as they were fook all to do with us.
Not knocking the meet as it's the bollocks but perhaps we should all tone it down a little that close to the people (our friends) who are stood there.

bieks are still lethal to others potentially, not just to the rider.

im very very careful, never push my car anywhere lear the limits round corners, never push the breaking to limits, and never take any risks i can avoid. i still rag the arse hole out of my car whenever i can, but only when i can see where im going, whats coming the other way, and know the roads.
my cars no 300bhp cossie, its an xr2 with about 125-130bhp, but it can still get upto quite dangerious speeds very quickly.
ive got full respect for my car though, i know if i push it to far itll bite my arse, and i know my second name isnt mcrae. two things most young drivers like me DONT have/know.

The thing that worries me the most at the PF southend meets are the RWD Saff's and mk2 Cossie power Escorts. They rip up and down and at the half way turn around point they nail it in 1st and 2nd and get the back out massively. Now this may look good but its right where 100+ other cars are parked and where many people are standing chatting.
How long is it before one of the RWD cars snaps away or they lose control of this powerslide and crashes into the parked cars and the people standing around chatting. This isnt a maybe, this is inevitable and WILL happen at some point, it happened to a couple of the RWD Saffs at the Essex RS meets and one bystander was knocked down and sufferent a broken arm, leg and pelvis, still people dont learn
I would say its ok to have a little blast but do it right down the empty end where no one is parked or standing

I actually think this is a good post, and I think about it more and more as I drive.
Will openly admit that when I was 17, and bought a car that was far too fast for the level of car control/driving maturity I had, I drove like an absolute muppet with no thoughts for the consequences of my actions.
Nearly 10 years later, I have a lot more respect for "what can go wrong".

Rich i think as we get older and more experianced with high powered cars we all get better at knowing when and where to have a bit of "safe" fun with out cars. The problem is most of the poeple driving silly fast at southend are people old enough to know better
#22
I'd agree 100%, but maybe that's the difference in the level of maturity?
I simply wouldn't drive like they do in Southend etc, because I appreciate the fact that I am fallable.
Therefore if I lose control on track, I'm much more likely to only hurt myself or damage my car. Lose it at the silly speed these people do on the seafront, and you could hurt a lot of people!

i havnt owned a performance road car full time for longer than 8 years now, theres just no point, too dangerous and far to costly either in cash, fines , or lives if your really unlucky
hence the rallying, sooooooo much more fun, more adrenalin, as fast as you think you can drive on the road try a rally and costs sooooooooo much more money
no the latter is probably not true, i would like to bet there are far more people with road going cosworths that spend more money on them than i do on mine in a year
but it is really dangerous with so much more traffic on the road these days and even worse road conditions, so i have a 1.2 3 cylinder road car now !!

You drive safer as you get older, ive never driven mine near its limit on the road i can honestly say the fastest ive been on the road was a Stack indicated 189mph so way off its potential.

That would be me then
Its the sierras that step out without warning, those crap diffs are an accident waiting to happen, that what happened at the RS meet, the guy had it on the limiter in 1st gear spinning one wheel, put it into 2nd gear and the other wheel decided to start spinning, that sent him off the road and into the poor bloke standing on the wrong side of the road.
Not saying an escort couldnt spin out,but its less likely to happen.

Driving fast when you can see it's safe is FINE.
If you can't tell if it's safe, you shouldn't be driving.
IMO the driving test could do with a lot of improvement, could save thousands of lives if you teach people a bit more.

I wouldn't account the full blame onto the driver, you have to remember that for every 1 driver doing something stupid there's usually a dozen more cheering them on.

Kev,
No-ones knocking your raw ability.
It's just when there's something you can't anticipate, like a patch of oil, or someone pulling out not looking - then it's bye bye time!

I know what you mean mate, and thats what i think when i watch others go up and down
You dont realise how fast your going from inside cos you think your in control, but you cant judge cars pulling out etc.
Its a chance you take everytime you put your foot down anywhere really. If we were on full alert all the time we would all be very nervous drivers

same about the people injured and bout cossy. but its the same at ace gcafe if you watch videos escorts powering round a roundabout and just look how close you are. but at the end of the day if you don't wanna stad there don't its just like rallying your taking your own life stud next to a tree when cars are belting past you at 70. cars are dangerous

Motorsport is inherently dangerous, but it's organised, the standard of driving is far higher, and marshalling usually does a fairly good job of keeping the crowds out of the silly areas. You also have on site paramedics, certain safety procedures, and a form of public liability insurance etc etc........................ but yeah, they're the same
