Default Accessing my Pc from elsewhere

When i type my IP into the browser, it asks for my Pc's username and password, i enter the ones set on windows, and it connects but gives me an 'under construction page.

Is there any way i can access my files from my pc from a remote location with my IP?

Any help or software suggestions appreciated

If you are using Windows XP Professional you should be able to simply turn on remote desktop access by right clicking on the My Computer icon.

Unless this is what you are already doing?

I also want to know this as I'm paying for static IP but never got round to figuring it out!

Also, does the fact I have a router on the other end complicate things??? Cos my IP number is totally different to the network settings of my router and home network (I just used the default ones that the router was configured with).

It does complicate things a little. You need to accessing the port forwarding section of your routers setup and forward the remote access ports to your machines IP address.

Should just be able to give the router's address.

How safe is that though? i mean the designers of the software could easily break into your machine seeing as the designed the software!

I would have thought that would be an issue with -any- remote access system. The fact is by opening up your machine to remote access you are opening yourself up to security issues regardless of how you go about it.

How about sticking your files on an FTP server and accessig them from both machines that way?

yes, you need to have vnc installed on your other pc, one as a host and one as a remote.

also with some versions of vnc, you cannot transfer files... Ultra vnc allows you to do file transfer.

Anyone got a *ahem* 'GOOD' copy of VNC?

Why don't they make a view that fits on a floppy or CD or something?!
