Ronaldo attended the police station voluntarily
Manchester United footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
Scotland Yard confirmed a man in his 20s was arrested after reporting by arrangement to a police station.
The Portuguese international is being questioned about claims a woman was sexually assaulted at a central London hotel on 2 October.
Manchester United said it was "not commenting at the moment".
Ronaldo, 20, attended the station and was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police's specialist Sapphire team.
He is being held in custody while he is interviewed about allegations made by a woman that she was raped in the penthouse suite of a hotel the day after Manchester United played Fulham.
A man in his 30s also kept an appointment at the police station, but has not been arrested.
BBC crime correspondent Neil Bennett said normal procedure was for the police to interview the alleged victim and alleged perpetrator and send a file to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether anyone should be charged.

This sort of thing is common place now. happened to van persie in holland in the summer. Funny how the 30 year old man was let go. Probably has no money.

When my nephew was playing for Man City a few years ago he took me to wetherspoons in manchester, the one next to the casino and barracuda`s and these 4 or 5 girls came over to talk.
He was a bit dry with them and went to the toilet, I met him on the way back and asked what the problem was. He told me they hang around the local footballers and try and get pregnant, one of those girls was caught trying to put pin holes in the condom when shacking up with one of the footballers.

Can't really imagine Ronaldo has a lack of offers, it's such a common story with footballers... im sure there's plenty of cases when the girl is pissed off and knows its a way for revenge
