Default Engine warranties

If someone had a cossie engine built by a reputal company and after a year of average miles an internal componant of say piston rings failed where would the owner stand??

The engine was bought from the guy that had it built so only had receipt from engine builder.

If it had no warranty with it I cant see you can do anything?
Did it have a 30 day, 90 day or a yr warranty or nothing even lol

I didnt think so as the engine is now 18 months old.

Will have to take apart and see whats what i think.
