Default Argh! Website knows where i live by my IP!

God damn i had a fright! I was browsing a site and an advert came up saying 'Meet girls in Sunbury!!!'

I thought 'eh?' Thats a bit specific aint it? then i thought ,'shit! thats far too specific! Thats only a mile down the road!'

So i done a bit of digging, and NTL IP address reveal which hub i'm connected to Which turns out to be Hersham, which is far too close for comfort.

How the hell can i block a whois search turning that sh*t up?

Ask NTL to change their hub-naming policy?

Like that would work!

anyway, its not as bad as i thought. There's not a hub to each town/area/ There's a lot of them, but they could be as widespread as the Southampton one, it covers a 30 miles radius!

Its just a coincidence that i live a stones throw away from the nearest hub

I been fettling about with proxies and DNS thingies all night, and you can surf any hub as your proxy. Its transparent though IIRC so my ip can be seen behind the proxy server IP

I did also find a massive list of working annonymous proxies that pretty much all work

I'm a mean, web surfing invincible mutha fuckah! EHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEE!

Sorry, I forgot the <sarcasm> </sarcasm> tags, I know NTL wouldn't make that kind of change if requested!

As you've already answered yourself, some kind of proxy would most likely disguise your rough location...

Yea, because London only has a few people living there.

This did surprise me the first time I saw it

But what does make me laugh is it shows these girls in your area, but then you look at their names and it says something like

MissNewYork or KinkyPerthSlut...

would be clever if they really were local people. Phone number would be nice too

I think the main giveaway with them birds are the fact you recognise half of them from porn pics etc.

I was quite suprised to see Tiffany Teen was infact KinkyEmma, 21, from Cheltenham

I think it was nearlygood.com where I first saw that! Quite a good ploy as they go!

Thats impossible, all cookies were cleared, as was the cache and scripts and it STILL done it.

Then again, like you said in another post, i also doubt it consults the ripe database to center in on you. Because if it did, it would have the brains to say 'Hersham' which is the nearest datacentre to me and which i am connected to.

Since then i've recently set up a proxy and am going through the Bristol exchange.

HERSHAM > BRISTOL > INTERNET

BUT its still comming up lol

See the link for a screenshot. I'd appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on this, cos its begginging to worry me. Oh and one more thing that takes the right piss is the fact my mate who lives in sunbury gets the message 'Find girls in London'
