Makes perfect sense to me Rod quitting.
He has achieved everything he wanted to and more with the car.
Its been a fantastic publicity tool for his good friend Mark Shead.
Its brought him lots of pleasure doing the runs.
I see no point him in continuing now, his car has got to the point where its on the brink of FAILING to do what he wanted it to, it was always supposed to be a completely no compromise road car, and the clutch he has to use now is a pig for him to use, so its starting to get away from that fast road car he wanted.
Makes far more sense to me if he drops it down a turbo size, and just goes back to enjoying being an OAP hooligan in it
Going out on the high point of the 5th gear shoot also makes perfect sense to me

Hi All
The car is permanent 4WD, the Sti type R has a 34/66% rear torque split, if you are rough enough (as I am ) then you can handbrake the front wheels and dump the clutch on the rears to do a burnout. Not so good for the box though as on my next run at totb I snapped a shaft !
The 210mph is not something I intend to try again, the car was most unstable up there, watching the in car footage shows the car rocking slightly from side to side as (presumeably) the air is escaping from beneath it As someone said, who knows what aero is going on at that speed in a car that comes from Japan with a 112mph limiter on it

You offering to drive ? The car is set up to run an 80 shot on the 1/4m
Looking back my datalogs I was only on WOT for the last run from 3rd upwards, the previous runs I was also lifting off in 4th/5th due to a bit yaw and rock which is not so nice at that speed. Then i got brave (or stupid ? )
By sheer coincidence the TPS trace on my datalog is Brown

Yes Mike, the drag radials are an issue for sure but there's not a lot of 17" tyre choice at 660mm/26" for this speed rating. Not without spending circa Ł2k anyway which is not currently on my 'to do' list

i would hate to do 200+ on them tyres althou i have been a little silly with them myself
the night before totb was the first time i had a chance to drive with the tyres on so thought i had better take them out for a little scrubbing in and as it was one of the first times i had driven the astra turbo'd i gave it some it had been raining for a little while at this piont but i never expeted it to accerlerate so fast so ended up going to a higer spend than i planed got to about 150 and the car got a little shaky so slowed down then hit some water on the road sent me from the midle lane to the outside i shit myself so decided it was time to slow down lots and they aint much better in the dry at 150 they were pulling me all over the place

Hey guys, myself and my husband Jon helped Andy organise this day and it was amazing to see the man in action. To think that the car was still picking up at the end of the track is amazing. I'm still on a high from the day even now so I would think that Andy is the happiest guy about at the moment.
I was speaking to the guy from Straight liners and he said that the other fastest car they've had was a skyline and Andy beat that with ease.
I did hint that something was going to happen in this >>thread
Thanks for the great day out Andy and the champagne afterwards I bet you're glad that I kept saying about beating the cossies record now *sorry passionford readers, you know I love you all really, runs and hides*
There will be a full feature in a Subaru magazine soon.

I can say however that my palms were just as sweaty and shaky after that 210mph run as they were after any championship race at knockhill in the cossie.
The prep that goes into the car for 1/4m or top speed is also just as critical.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Awesome mate very well done
PS - Great idea with the bonnet air scoop! I thought the original would slow it down by a mile!!
Looking at you scoob, which looks cool btw, it shows Cosworths could get a little more out on the quarter mile, as I've never seens a 4wd Cossie running drag radials before.........
