Thats what I said!!!

I just wanted confirmation of the overall package though really, and whether or not I was missing something.

Cheers Jim, man after my own heart It's only that pesky Rainbird's meddling, else I wouldn't have posted Numbers are just numbers all else said, the drive is what matters, and I'm confident it'll do. (I bet Fagin said the same once, and look what he did!)

Shaun, my old grey cells are fading, lol - but think Jim sounds about right. Would love to have had similar torque , but either way, I need a reliable motor, and can't afford to be breaking Łx k's of Quaife box We're not all huge porn stars who are minted, lol. (okay, I may be huge, lmao)

Pony 4x4 don't forget

Long time no speak, hope things are all well with you & yours Must catch up some time, and I'll buy you a beer

Best regards

Well done, Bill.

More than enough for a road car IMHO.

Enjoy.......

thats is one hell of a wide powerband! Certianly no big torque drop off either, so u'll be hitting the limiter damn quick! Is a t38 still a t3 zorst wheel?

Honestly couldn't tell you Rick, I *think* they are based around T3/04B which would make you right. I'm sure some will know better than I can recall at this point. I was too busy discussing the dark depths of P8 mapping etc. still a very good ECU for it's era, and more than suitable for my particular requirements.

The torque is quite different to my old setup, which had a hefty slug of boost & therefore torque, low down, which gradually dropped off due to the engine not being able to process the air (std engine, greens & chip etc.) - pretty much at odds to what I now have, especially as regards the engine.

Looking forward to experiencing the difference. Would probably be much less hassle with rwd (transmission-wise etc.), but those days are long gone for me.

Stu, I think so too, will have air2air inj's & boost pot just in case I know it's not huge power in Cosworth tuning terms thesedays, but ample for a nearing middle-ager like me 4x4 yes, but it's a leap in power for what I'm used to, so will get treated with the respect that power level deserves. Horses for courses and all that.

It's actually quite hard (except for funds ) NOT to get carried away, but you have to stop somewhere, and the final no. was more than I expected. Couple of ancilliary items to change in all probability to the rest of the car, and hopefully I'll have a 'belt & braces' setup I can enjoy for a long time

Bill,
Not remarking on the direct comparison of the figures themselves (as regards to how high or low they were) as I assume you appreciate...... but then I suppose you dont see many people aiming for what you have achieved, even though I realise you were not looking at getting such high BHP figures..... but of course it's all good.

I must admit I did forget about the dodgy Escort Transmission.... so it all rings true now.

Driveability as a road car is key though as you have highlighted. Too many people have and continue to chase and concentrate on the peak numbers for a road car when in reality road cars are about something entirely different. I appreciate this only too well after the RS500. Saying that though after nearing testing of a target 360/360 stage 1 (yep... thats right Stage 1 lol - havent these newage Scoobs come a long way) conversion on my Scoob, i'm already looking at planning testing of a stage 2 conversion to take it over 400bhp with other minimal bolt on mods..... so perhaps I should practice what I preach. I keep telling myself that 500+bhp is totally going away from what I am trying to achieve (a track orientated car in the end, while still being very driveable on the road)..... but it's so tempting as a goal especially as I know the standard transmission will cope with excess of this.

All very well here mate.... even if I have moved over to another car marque. We will certainly have to catch up for a beer, perhaps when your car is run in (you can take me for a spin). And i'm sure I owe you a pint as I remember you bought the last one (or two).

Escorts are still very dear to my heart...... so please dont get me thinking about those again!!!

You sound as happy as punch, which is always a bonus!!!!

Out of interest what AFR ratio was it running? I was on the dyno on thursday as well and we were running out of fuel at 320bhp on 440cc/min injectors (light blue equivalents). For safety we were running 11:1 at the top end but I'm pretty sure that we could lean it off quite a lot as it's only running at 1 bar at that point.

Current plan is to try and convert to 8-injectors (anyone know anyone who sells 8-injector fuel rails?) so we can run some little 220cc/min injectors at low load and bring in the 440s later on. That should let us unleash the turbo which we were having to fight as it wanted to give us a lot more boost than the injectors could handle.

11.1 is rather rich imo (but I'm not a mapper!), assuming you mean a Cossie engine as per topic, you could use a WRC 8 injector manifol/fuel rail - Mountune do these and most Cossie tuners could supply also, I guess. Or if you can get one, the RS500 style 8 inj setup.

Thing to watch there though, is WRC rail is siamesed (injectors side by side) and the RS500 setup has the normal rail, and supplemental inj's at the back of the plenum which gives different results/different mapping requirements.

Was that an engine dyno or chassis dyno out of interest?

Marco, ISH - thankyou kind sirs!! Catch up with guys soon I hope

Dunc - I've got some running in to do, so should make a few meets

Cheers Dave. Comparisons would be easier if the turbo guys wouldn't use the same names for 'different' turbos, but then there's always the different trims/housings etc. that vary.

Shaun, your motor sounds very , indeed, things have come a long way in Scooby tuning. Given their pace 'outta the box' that should be a weapon

Thanks to everyone else who has posted, and thanks for keeping it all sensible - very nice to see, and what PF should be all about. After all, we're all petrol heads

Nige, yes it is put through a fairly lengthy run-in cycle which is one of the benefits of using a bench dyno, as it can be run in precisely under the correct loads etc.. prior to mapping.

Still have to 'run in' on the road though - it's a lot of money to spend on an old car, and so I'll be doing whatever my builder/tuner tells me to.

Cheers Matt

Regards

Bill

...know what you mean about the keeping it sensible bit....something i am gonna throw out the window My car is a beauty to drive at the mo on the MSD stage 3 setup....but i have that rather special engine i built here ...and the continuation of where the Saff left off is drawing closer to the surface Why oh Why cant i leave it at stage 3

.....i take ,billy, you are using the UT version did i see of the T38?????...Harvey recommended that one to me so i had a similar setup in the Saff for a while...fooking lovely although i didnt think it was much less laggy than the T4!...Of course i DIDNT have secret cams only BD10's

Look forward to meeting up again one day

It's a Harvey spec T38, not a TT unit.

Cam's aren't secret, just undisclosed

Likewise mate, it's been a while eh? And, I have some running in to do , so who knows Be nice to see your motor too, surprised you haven't got gold wheels on it yet though

Not too sure about your colour choice though I mean c'mon, white with a pearlescant pink flip (yeah, yeah, camera phone... )

Best Regards

Bill

i'm not a pro at mappin mate.

but on a dyno you will be safe to run 12.2 - 12.4:1, easierly,
but once in car best/ safe be around 11.7- 12.0, any richer than that your wastein fuel and power, unless your car has a mega EGT's or uneven cyclinder AFR differences.

your got a choice of 8 inj set ups, or even the newer style of larger injectors, but matters on ecu your runnin.
wot engine, and dyno was that on?

Yes, the Ahmed springs (Leda specials - I think) make the back sit lower than standard..............Contact Karl for the measurements, he has the car at the moment - for mapping
