Ooops, won an award! Best loudspeaker under £1,000
Never won anything before........was invited to the Hi-Fi News magazine awards dinner, a black tie event with over 1000 industry peeps there. It is a proper awards event like you see on TV, with Video coverage, large screen at the back of the the huge stage at the Renaisssnce Hotel (Heathrow).
Anyway, it comes to the section for "Best loudspeaker under £ 1000" (BTW this it the most competitive market sector for compact, high quality speakers).............
So they anounce in reverse order 3rd place to Professional Monitor Company TB2 (PMC make speakers from £700 to £ 11,000), 2nd place to Sonus Faber "Signum" (sonus make speakers from £ 998 to £ 28,000 )
Then I'm thinking: Oh well, I CANT be in this section, maybe I'm in "best new product or some other catagory"
Then the host says "the winner is the Stirling LS3/5a V2"................
Went up and collected the A4 sized award, same size as the loudspeaker (see pics below), then I posed for press pics that will be in October edition of the magazine......

Bloody well done fella! That's one hell of a lot of competition you've beaten off there!
As cheeky as it sounds, can I borrow one to test it? (Much as I'd love to, I'm not sure could do it justice lol).
Out of curiosity, what do you do for amplification? Is there a certain amp you recommend?

These were designed by the BBC way back in 1972......Mine is a revamp/redesign of the original, so I called it the "V2" (Version 2), it sounds almost exactly like the original with a few tweeks to the responce/power handling to bring them up-to-date.
Thanks for all the nice comments.

Thanks again for all the kind comments..........
Over the years there have been some very bland looking and even downright ugly loudspeakers with stunning sound........
Quad Electrostatics - they looked like copper radiators.......
JR 149's (an LS3/5a clone but shaped in a cylinder) that looked like a waste paper basket.......
Magnaplaner - they looked like bed headboards.......
Loads of others
