I've the chance to buy a getrag 5spd rwd gearbox(rs500 gr.A) for my 3dr. I was wondering if it would be the right choise for a 400+ setup mainly used for drag racing. As far as I know it has 2,33 on first gear and 1,1 on fifth gear.

 

Youre right about the Direct top gear but there are 2 different types of these boxes, a race and a Rally box, the Race box had the longer 1 st gear of the two , not sure exactly what the ratio is but its longer than the rally box which has slightly closer ratios in 2nd and 3rd ,


this is my race box going back in , ive a spare rally Box as well tho !!

 

how much are these boxes and what power do they handle?

 

i still have a problem sourcing a pressure plate for the getrag gearbox as i have the friction plate theres one on ebay dunno if will work though do you no if any others work cheers

The Input shaft pattern is 1" by 10 splines, any Ap plate with that pattern will fit as long as youve the correct flywheel .I use a Twin plate ap clutch with this one .
these boxes handle 500bhp without any worries and have a good close ratio spread .

I thing that the box I have in mind is a rally one. What I want to know is if the box is suitable for drag racing or it's too short.
BTW I plan further engine mods.

Hi Mr.G, make sure the box comes with the correct bellhousing, they are the rarer part !
Also if the box has the oil pump section fitted, don't turn the engine over with blanking caps on or you shear the drive peg.

Suggest you buy one of Superaly's Getrag conversions then as you'll shit yourself if you ever break a proper one , theyre really expensive to repair .!!!
