Default 1 bar boost=??.? psi

i was just trying to work out some boost figures for a mate as he has a gauge that reads in mmhg or something.

now i always thought 1 bar boost=14.7 psi but all the online pressure converters say 1 bar=14.5 psi. i know it's only 0.2 psi difference but i need to be sure on these calculations.

so is 1 bar boost 14.7 or 14.5 psi????

cheerz

thanx mate. that does sound right as i just found this on a skyline forum:-

It is and has always been 14.7 psi at sea level ( 1 atmosphere)
Altitude effects pressure.
Steam and Air pressure vessels are rated as above , as is cars.

the issue is clouded it seems that 1 bar is 14.5030 but 1 atmosphere is 14.691 but i always thought that 1 bar = 1 atmosphere but as we have already seen atmosphere is relative to altitude so i would say its somewhere between 14.5038 and 14.691. is this cloudy or what and for the book i retract my previous post i think

1.0 Bar IS 14.5 PSI.

1.0 Atmospshere is 14.7 PSI.

1.0 BarG of boost is 14.5 PSIG or 29.2 PSIA (14.7+14.5)

The confusion is either with Atmospheric pressure or between Absolute (A) and Gauge (G) pressures.

STU (yet another Stuart/Stewart who knows what he's talkin about)
