Just been to look at a MK6 escort rs2000 in Aularas Blue.

Fell in love with it, really tidy car, bla bla bla.

But the engine bay is white!!!?????
wats going on? finkin somfink dodgy going on, hpi clear etc.
Any ideas?! its the only think puttin me off buyin it.

Sometimes they used a cheaper shade of the same colour paint under the bonnet to save money (but not nver heard of one being a different colour tottally)

 

its an N reg.

 

Mines a N reg Jodi but its the same colour under the bonnet there hard enough to find pukka let alone one that feel right walk away

 

Did you ask them why it was white? Try and lift up a corner of the carpet somewhere [best off near the front of the car, but check boot also].

I'd give it a miss though if I was you.

For the record, just cos it's HPi clear doesn't mean theres nothing wrong with it. If it was owned previously by a panel beater/sprayer for example, it's likely any major damage may not have been recorded....

 

the boot is the right colour. its just the engine bay and bonnet, u can see it has been spayed blue over white coz there is no definition in the paintwork.

Only hot car [other than my beast which isn't for sale ...yet....] is a Rover 200 vi. It's a wolf in sheeps clothing.... it was my mums car for a few years and has only done 42000 miles, P reg, in white... 0-60 in 7.4 [accoding to stats somewhere] can tell you the vvc engine lets you rev the t!ts up and is ahead of Vr6's and the like

Right this may sound totally stupid but I have a sinking memory in the back of my head that some of them had white underbonnets (not body colour if metallics to save costs)

Speak to the RSK registar of the RSOC Joid he might be able to confirm this or make me look stupid

The only good 'uns are the 600's with the 2.0 litre honda running gear....

 

I know the later Fiestas has acid-etch primered engine bays with no colour, but this was usually either matt black or a very faded-looking version of the colour registered on the VIN/chassis plate.

Did you get the colour code from the VIN?

jus spoke to a very helpful Mr steve Carney (rs2000 registrar) and he thinks that i dont have to much to worry bout, it has been done on sum. but he gave me sum numbers to look out for. just gotta wait till tomorro now!!!!!

I looked at an Auralis rs2000 when i was looking for one, it too had a white engine bay, its just the base coat, they didnt bother painting the engine bay to save money. Dark colours, the bays are usually matt black as Al says.
My red one like less's has a non shiney matt finish red in the bay.

Is it 2wd or 4wd? either way its pretty rare in that colour, look after it if you get it
Check for rust under the spoiler where it meets the boot as they all seem to go here but can go unnoticed. Arches/ under front door rubbers, all usual places. Hope its a good one.

certainly darker coloured later Mk6 often come with plain dull black engine bay..

 

White engine bay rings a bell for me too...

 

Later Escorts tended to painted in this way...

Sliver cars ended up with white bays too...

 

And people doubted my knowledge

 

Don`t worry about it i have seen loads of them like that ford cutting cost`s
remember when they whjere in the showrooms in work look a right mess like the for got to paint it
