On September 17th 2005 the first UK Tuner GP was held at Donington Park
where many of the UKs best tuning companies put there cars against each
others on the track.
We took this opertunity to enter our Clio 172 turbo to see what it could
do against some much more power machinery. Unfortunately the organisers
had not thought the classes out very well so we were up against four wheel
drive and rwd drive cars as well as a few front wheel drive cars. Ths
meant we were up against the likes of 500+bhp Imprezas and track cars
powered by turbo charged motorbike engines.
This did not dampen the day though as we were there for a bit of fun and
to give the car a shake down on only its second track outing.
The car perfomed superbly and quickly posted a 1 minute 25 seconds lap
of the track which made it easily the fastest front wheel drive car in the
whole event. This performance was further backed up by the car also
recording a 5.11 second 0-60mph sprint also on the same day. We ran the
car for 28 very hard laps of the track and did not suffer any problems
with the engine what so ever which is very encouraging considering the car
is producing well over 120bhp more that it left the factory with. What we
did find is that we need to spend a little more time setting the car up
for track use as the front tyres were overheating and the rear tyres were
not getting hot enough. I think the front tyres were overheating due to it
wheel spinning in 3rd and 4th gears around many of the tighter corners!
Overall we had a very good day in a completely reliable car and we are
now looking forward to entering the event next year with more power and a fully set up car.
We hope to have a video of the car on the track on the website in the
next few days so please keep an eye out as it is worth watching us waste a modified Focus RS.
Regards.
The K-Tec racing Team.

Wouldn't surprise me - the Renault is universally recognised as one of the best handling FWD chassis available.
Check out the Tuner GP lap times - the Clio is punching well above its weight!

The Yozza sport n/a Clio is also faster than the Focus
I think 'radiant red' on here owns the SCC Focus and its just been rebuilt and needs mapping.

I know 'Yozza', he did the work to my mates CUP. His latest spec'd engine is supposed to be mental, on throttle boddies etc. He's also a bit of a nutter behind the wheel.

andy nicholls also ran his rover 200 turbo in the drag strip challenge, got a 4s odd 0-60mph run and then was disqualified for being over the 98db limit (as did many of the cars on track).
the rover was 114db with the external wastegate!

Oh yes HE IS!!!
But still id expect the FRS to beat him??? to be honest i think both him an fred were surprised when they saw the times compared!! ESPECIALLY as he wasnt running full throttle as the car exceeded the noise restrictions on full chat!! The K-tec turbo clio is a monster granted but again id have expected the FRS to beat it round the donnington circuit

Yes thats Yozza's car above not the k-tec, Yozzasport were also running a black Clio with full trim, slightly slower than the Focus.
The 300bhp+ TT engined clio sleeper was there also but cant see times for it, prob too loud.

Ish- Yup
Andy- Aye, Trevor was the one who was with me all day when i did the feature on K-Tek's Clio last week.
Its funny talking to Trevor about GTTs now, for someone so well known for them it seems like he fucking hates em
Drives a standard diesel van now
Your right about everyone connected in one way or another. Nathan Scaddan was a name famous back in the day for his ahem11.9sec 1/4mile ahem escort RS Turbo, and he was at TOTB4 competing in his RWD Skyline and the fucker was running 140mph terminals

Talking about K-Tec though that is one QUICK Clio, Daves a sound bloke and done a very good job with it (not sure if its been sold now) and Trevs a legend I WOULD expect it to thrash a FRS
In fact was 2006 IIRC I went to the last tuner gp (at Snetterton) do they not hold it anymore?
