Default A question about mapping...

..this may seem dumb but its expected

If you have 2 chips (say from Collins or Ahmed etc) one for greens and one for greys and they were both running 6% co at idle, would off boost driving produce the same fuel consumption?

impossible to tell, its all down to what numbers are in the fuel tables

...yes Gareth but if say the chip was from say Collins surely the map would be the same off boost (just adjusted for injectors) to get correct running so in theory should be the same economy???...Bare in mind i mean same basic engine spec/turbo just bigger injectors to allow more boost.

if the only difference was a multipul of the other for the inejctor size it would be the same

...the reason i ask is i want to put some greys in and go collins chip,as i really rate em ,plus i want the collins moniter with adjusters (so have to go collins chip!)...but i want the samish off boost fuel consumption!!!

Just for the time being this is to have 380 ish bhp while i save up for the upped tranny mods to handle my real engine

Tiff there greys program is spot on (As tested by my afr device !!!)

If you only use the car on the road an off the shelf is fine unless you are a nutter and wish to hold it on the limiter in top gear then you would be wise to have a live map.

Engine failures are rarely down to a bad map just a dodgy component.

6% C/O at idle?

Dont sound very well mapped to me.

Special "Fail your MOT" maps

phil the collins chips for greys are not always great when off boost, a guy on here had one and when he floored the throttle it was chucking in soo much fuel off boost that it hesitated until it came on boost

i know they look after ya but they aint that good off boost, on boost there fine though

but then im sure sue ( ) may be able to tweek it alittle

personally on that basis i wouldnt bother

on the other hand ive got a greys chip for a standard engine and t34 but its L6, if ya wanna borrow it to try then ya more than welcome, i know it aint that much help but its the best i can offer at the moment

Mine was a chip from Tony at turbo systems which he did "off the shelf"
about 2 years ago now asnd it drive like a dream
went to have it mapped 6 months after fitting the chip just to be sure and it hardly needed touching..

I just mailed the spec and had a chip a week later

Steve the ideal CO on the older style chips (Karl and Stu are on a whole new level) is 5% to get the correct fuelling thru out.

Nowt to do with bad mapping...unfortunately we all taking the later style maps from Karl and Stu asthough this is all thats ever been done.

Surely the 1st and last sentence contradicts the middle one???

If they was spot and and blowups wasnt down to the chip, it wouldnt be wise to get a live map if your planning to top end your car, as theyd be no need if the fueling was fine.

IIRC my Cossie had an off the shelf Bluesprint chip for Greys and was jus tover 3% c/o at idle

phil with greys its alittle more to do with the idle and off boost fueling too, most cant get that set up well hence why people used to bitch about the greys consuption and all the bore wash stuff

the only thing i experienced though was the hesitation when ya opened the throttle

but unless they give ya a decent discount then i would rather take it to karl if hes got time

Jim i class it as not going to melt your engine fine...of course it aint as good as a live map...but its a damn site cheaper if you dont care on getting as much from the engine as possible...IMO off the shelf chips are extra safe rather than anything.

Ginge.....i had the Collins one in my T38 greys engine was mint on boost..must admit it was a tad rich off boost but MANY mapper will say you CANT get below 5% on greys as they dont know what Karl and Stu do...YET.

phil did you have the 2 second hesitation thing though

never new what karla nd stu done was secret as such , just noiticed it as i drive the car on the way to stus actually and stu checked it, explained the reason ( i told the guy it was prob cam timing, how stupid did that make me look )stu sorted it with a new map and the car drove spot on , i managed to hold it at just over 135 gps times too not the "guess the speed" ford clocks and it never melted,,,,,,, well after 5 mins i did get told " dude its my car ya ragging, i wouldnt mind but i was there when stu said ya bent 3 rods from your engine,,,,,,,,,,, actually next services ill drive "

but thats the only thing i noticed but it made the car shite to drive, id rather have greens tbh just as its more of a road car then
