this does sound like a problem i had that stu @msd found . with my 3 bar map sensor ,even though stus pectel monitor says it was running at the right vac at idle and i had tested the map sensor on teh bench to ensure it gave the correvt voltages out at the right pressures etc, the car still ran very rich with black smoke and misfires, it was when i was going from stg 1 to stg3 with one of stus closed loop chips.
we tried and checked everything(connections, pressures, gaps etc ect) , until stu says, lets just try a new map sensor as that is easy to just plug in and try, new one off the shelf, pipe on, multiplug clicked on, start her up, pectel monitor says exactly the same map value as before, BUT the car now ran with no smoke, no isfires and a perfect lambda of 1,
we both said that if you had not seen it with your own eyes, you would not believe it at all.
which gets to the point,, has your car only just done it, or just since you fitted the stg 3 setup...? maybe worth getting anew map sensor (70 quid) to try as a spare on the shelf if its not that is not a bad thing.

forgot to say,,
what was happening was that the old 3 bar map sensor (for some reason) was reading ever so slightly higher that is should EVEN though the pectel monitor reading was right, and the fueling had moved from idle to the next line up on the map which was a part load and so was chucking loads of fuel in, black smoke, missing like a spark collapsing at about 3K then when u backed off it would backfire and spit flames out - nice.

yep, if your ect is saying its warm, then its more than likely the map sensor, OR the other usual fuel things that can fail, sticking fuel preesure reg, or squashed (blocked) fuel return line to the tank..
