Default Car Mileage question--Are you bothered???

Does the mileage of a car bother you it it has had an engine rebuild and looked after??

Some people wont touch a car it is has done over 100k, even if it is 20 years old.

I buy on condition not mileage. Our FRST has over 100k on the clock but it was in far better condition than some of the so called minters we looked at with around half the mileage

i couldnt care less what milage is on a car tobehonest if the bodys good and it runs sweet who cares plus the fact it only takes 10 minutes to swap a set of clocks over so would never trust it anyway

I think it depends entirely on the price of the car

if i was buying an escos for instance and the bloke wanted £18k i would be expecting a low milage, low owners fsh etc !

if the bloke wants £10-12k i wouldn't be expecting the same

like 3doors @....5-6k i would expect a bit of leg and no history etc
8-10k..it would have to be a nice example

if a car is exceptionally low and minty mint like the rs500 was on here @ circa 8k miles then top money is to be expected i.e £20-25k

Yes and no,

my Laguna has done nearly 120k now and has been the most reliable car i've owned (had one problem due to a garage not tightening the alternator up after changing a belt but I noticed it before it broke down/broke anything)

This is all good for a runabout/motorway cruiser, but remember, shells weaken and start to flex a lot more with age/mileage. Its not just consumables such as bushes/clutches that wear out!

All depends on cond of the car whats a 100k now a days i seen that been clocked up in just over an year on some cars.

Saying that i would not like to buy a supercar ferrari porker etc.. with an 100k

not of primary interest to me.. especially on an older car - condition is everything , and priced realistically to suit... Same goes for Service History in my book.
A crapper with low mileage and top history is no use to anyone.

A very valid point, my Saff (10 owner, no history, HPI Cat D etc.) had a lot of rubbing marks around the door shut areas, like on the rear arch area that you see with the rear door open, where it had been rubbing against the inside edge of the door. Clearly lots of flexing had caused this and it did make me start to think about these things...

Depends on the car doesn't it?

My old fella likes e-class mercs and they've all had well over 150k on them and still run perfect.

...depends.....i looked at 2 XJR's one had 72000 the other 164000..i went with the lower mileage....but on the Ferrari i went higher mileage due to it not being a garage queen I was looking at fooking 10000milers but you can expect trouble...higher ones are used and everything in good order and working!!!!...Plus they cheaper..LOL.People just think low mieage means good!..On a Cossie an engine rebuild would be more important than actual mileage

high miles used to bother me but it does notany more, at the end of the day, an
engine is easier to fix than swappin a shell, mine had 83k on clock 12 month ago
when i bought it, every MOT cert etc, it now has 93k on clock and had an engine
rebuild at 87k.

If you're talking in terms of a cossie, high mileage doesnt bother me providing its had a rebuild, clutch and possibly even gearbox within the last 20k miles.

On an RS or weekend car i think its more important to look at condition and or rebuilds, however on my ST24 i wanted lowish miles (mines done 56k FFSH) as i wanted to make sure the car had a good few yrs left in it so its easier to get rid of when i sell, plus i feel things wont really need replacing yet as with a higher 100k car some components are coming to the end of thier life expentantcy

doesnt bother me . ive had a k reg golf gti on 193000 !!! still went fine. the only thing that puts me off buying a car with high miles is i get bored quick and end up selling my car about 2 months after getting it and thats when mileage mite be a prob cos of what other people think. im on my 50th car now but im going to put that up for sale cos its boring me already!! and its a M3 !!!!!
