Default whats best mk5 Escort RS2000 or fiesta RS1800???

Hey

dont want to use my ERST as an everyday car anymore so i'm going to get one of the above, which one is best overall

ideally i want the fiesta cos i've had loads of escorts, (although never owned a mk5 RS2000, but had the XR3i one and that was complete shite!)

whats best, reliability, performance, running costs, etc etc

i only really want to spend around a grand, would go to £1500 tops i reckon. they both seem to go pretty cheap on ebay

which would you lot go for?

cheeRS lads

Sorry I hat to diasrgee but the RS2000 is more derserving of the Rs name then the fiesta. As the MK5 RS2K had it only rallying series so hnce justfiing the nmae RS (yer know Rallye Sport)

Fester, less chance of a zetec going wrong than the I4 inmho. Plus I think a decent one is a hoot to drive.

If you're on the original chain at 135k you are taking a risk imho.

I'll stick by what I said that the 1.8 zetec is likeley to have less go wrong than an I4....and it would be cheaper to fix.

edited as 3dr pete came to his senses rs1800 was involved in no motorsport what so ever the Rs2000 was rallied and did very well at national level

PS go for the 2K I wanted an Rs1800 a few years back but was put off by the lack of recaros on the later ones and the fact its so similar to the xr2i so went for a 2k ended up with a 4x4 wicked car so much grip so much fun the RS2000 is a hugely underatted car IMO

PS I4 strong as feck and no cambelt snapping worry either

water pumps go on zetec's, belt tensioners break up on zetecs idle valves(saying that there not to hot on i4s either) play up people wrong oil in to them giving them sticking valves
the only weak point on a i4 is the coil packs they are a really strong engine
but i agree with you about the cost to repair IF they go wrong

I owned a 2K for some time and much as I loved it I would go for the 1800. Haven't had one but have owned an XR2i or two and they're very good cars. Plus as a daily runabout it's easier to park (especially if you live somewhere like I do where there are 3 times the amount of cars than there is spaces!)

I had an rs1800 lump in my Fiesta Si b4 the 2.0, it was quite nippie and i used to give it a beating and i never failed me really. Only thing is insurance is stupid for what it is, ur much better off bringing a 2i 16v up to rs1800 spec and not tellin insurance or getting a 1.6Si like mine and wacking a 2.0 init .

I would go fiesta personally but im biased and have never liked escorts really except a cossie obviouslly. But the rs2000 engine is more powerful and apperntly just a full exhaust and filter can see 160 bhp out of them.

insurance isn't a problem on it, its only costing an extra £170 for the year to add it to my ERST policy, and i'm only 22.

i cant use an XR2i because my insurance company will only insure RS's

is they're many differences between the mk5 escort Rs2000 and the XR3i, cos the XR3i was shite! handled like a bag of shit.

still prefering the fezzy at mo, it just the price of the escort attracts me

i think the mk5 handle pretty good but putting better shocks and bushes in changes the car complety

the best bit about mk5s s there like 205s mk2 golf gtis there in a complete low price wise as there like to become a future classic £1500 is likely to get you a really mint one 2 years ago that wouldnt get you a dog!

You are wrong.. and given I worked with the guys who designed this engine I can say that!

MK5 RS2000 was also a really RS as in a RALLY SPORT car, it rallied... unlike the fessy.

Sorry - meant to put IMO for RS2000 Mk5 comment. Not all RS's have racing pedigree - S2RST, Fiesta RST etc. Ka has own rally series, but does not make it an RS Ka....

I have driven the Mk5 RS2K in standard form, and decided IMO it was Ford brand engineering and would have been better badged as an XR....

i want one thats good as standard really, i dont really want to spend money on it or start modifying it, other wise i wont want that as my everyday motor as well

I'm buyin me own place and the motor will be left on the street, n the ERST can stay locked up down at me parents. thats the plan anyhow

cant reply with anything remotely witty cos im still laughing at the easy to park comment thats like saying you only bought the cos as it came free with a rather large ironing board on the back

Alex you're bang on there

Kev: I'll have you know I am an EXPERT parker and will give you a run for your money anytime . The reason I am such a pro is that I have to park my mates cars including Paranoid Emma who cannot reverse into spaces, she needs to find one big enough to drive into!

I voted 2k because i own one but in all honesty i shouldnt have voted because ive never driven an RS1800

things i like about the 2k though are

cheap as chips to run and maintain

Pretty reliable apart from the fusebox

handles shithot much better IMO than a S2

Oh last thing dont buy a MK6 as all your mates will accuse of being a raving homo your girlfriend will leave you and your mam will kick you out the house, puffs car
