need some advice folks on wat home from work a vectra estate started tailing me up to my bumper then backing off until i thought f**k this and nailed it thinking it was some idiot trying it on a few mioles down the road there s the old bill, turns out this guy in the vectra is c.i.d.and obviously radioed ahead so he tells me to step out of the car then starts balling and shouting at me and asking why i felt it necessary to be doing over 100 miles an hour.I said i wasnt he then says so you want me to take you to court i was doing 65 when you pulled away from me and i could not catch you and that thing(pointing to his car which i think was atleast a valver isnt slow) so i replied i wasnt aware i was going fast im just trying to get home from late shift.BUT the thing is the road he was doing 65 on is a 60 only road so he asks the usual is it yours insurance ect then compliments me on how nice the car looks ect ect and gives me a producer with the boxs ticked for recording my details.

Question being is that the end after i produce as they say its an offence to not carry my docs can i be taken to court as its my word against his and surely if he was going to do me for dangerous driving and speeding over 100 as he said i would not be left to go on my way there was only him in his car too no other officers and im nearly sure he had no equipment in his car any advice would be appreciated folks

If he was CID he can't do you speeding anyway as his car won't have t he equipment. Don't worry about it he's just being an arse and trying to worry you. If there were going to report you for an offence they would have told you there and then.

I doubt his was actually CID as no real detective would ever stop anyone for speeding as he would get the *iss ripped out of him for dealing with a traffic offence.

He has just given you a producer and they always tick the record details box so its nothing to worry about mate.

they cant do you at all if they are on their own without equipment! i got stopped doin an "estimated" 90 in a 30 (quite generous i thought ) but because he had neither of the above the cop had to let me go!

Just produced my documents and thats it. although the desk sergant said to take it easy as they have recorded my details and apparently its normally just a check,he did say also that he could not understand why a detective sergant C.I.D. would stop me.never told him it was cause i left him trailing in my smoke as i pulled away doing over a 100 on a 60 road. Should be chasing proper criminals there is two unsolved murders in my town.

You did wrong mate, had a copper trail me one night, unmarked car, followed me about 3 miles across the city. So i fooking nailed it on a stretch of road, hammered a few islands before he pulled me over with the blues going in the grill.

I dived out the car and went fookin mental, said that i was affraid that I was being followed and that i was under freat and needed to get away from him, and because they had an unmarked car didn't realise it was police.

Finished up by saying you scared the shit out of me, what right have you to trail me for so long without pulling me over.

Copper didn't know what to say, just let me go!!

you do have the right to exceed the speed limit if you are threatened, but need to be able to prove it.

thought of that one mate i know a few people who have said they thought they were car theives following them and were goingto find out where they lived in order to nick the car and i suppose with the rise in carjacking you could use it but its done now but will certainly bear that in mind next time or just pull over and force him to take action either overtake or pull me but like i say they have better things to do BUT its an easy target and they may just make a bit of revenue too.

It is not an offence to not carry your documents that's utter bollocks. In fact a mates Dad who is a retired police Inspector advised me never to produce my licence at the roadside, didn't say why though

One copper on his own can do you. In court the magistrates will always take the officers proffesional opinion even if it's a load of utter arse

Thats wrong actually. Speeding is an offence that requires corroboration. This means one officers evidence cannot convict. They can if they have electronic equipment but the evidence of one officer just reading the speedo is not enough. Without electronic speed equipment it requires at least two officers to say that they both observed the vehicle travelling at the same speed and at the exact same time (plus would also need a calibrated speedo).

You don't have a right to drive fast if under threat, but the circumstances may be taken into account (remember Beckham and his paparazzi?)

Usually, if you drive straight to a cop-station and run in there screaming that someone is after you, they might wear it but 100+ down the road to Tesco/Home/Pub doesn't work.

Apparently its something to do with addmitting guilt. If you produce your license you are effectivly addmitting you did something wrong. I think. Someone deffo told me this once though.
