Default YB Plenum Spacers ???? Who Has used Them ??

Lo,

Has anyone had any experiences with YB Spacer Plates ??

I am thinking about buying one for the cos,do they help
the flow and increase BHP by having a larger volume ???

Cheers,

Al...........

They wont increase BHP directly, but what they will do is allow a better distribution of fuel/air mix between the cylinders.

This means that you dont end up with the situation you normally get on a cossie where the inside and outside chambers are actually doing a slightly different amount of work, which then means that the chambers are filled more evenly, so you can map it better.

The problem with having different chambers receieve a different amount of fuel/air charge is that you have to map the timing so its safe on the two with the larger volume, which means the other two arent working as hard.
This means a loss in power.

So correcting that can mean you run a higher average pressure per cylinder and hence from that make more power.

Not sure if that makes sense to you or not, but it does to me

the restriction is in the elbow....

Yes there is indeed a restriction in the elbow.

This restriction makes it more difficult for the elbow to flow pulses of boost to each cylinder as required, so a larger volume that smooths the pulses so that each one is over a slightly longer period of time results in greater flow.

BUT thats not the point i was making, its just yet another benefit of larger plenum volume, the point i was making is that it also allows for a more even distribution of charge between the cylinders.

Its largely because the elbow is so restrictive that the extra volume is so useful, i cant understand the way that certain people look at things so black and white like an elbow will flow "X bhp" and that nothing else is going to effect that!

Anyway, all debating aside i will leave you with this thought:
Rod has a spacer on a standard rs500 plenum on his car

Sounds like a plan then, I am going to Go Greys and a live map when my new engine
goes in over the winter, so anything i can do to help the flow will be good..

I will go for the 14mm spacer i think too..

To be honest, you probably better off going for a Zoo or R'n'B plenum, and kill 2 birds with one stone, ie loose the elbow restriction and sort out the volume issues in one go

I agree but probably overkill on an an engine of less than 500bhp and you will loose a but of power down low I think.

the over down side to it, it wouldn't fit my car, as the inter to close the engine.

thats why i had to go for rs500.

but if had space, it would of been cheaper option.

Fucking about with a plenum adding spacers is a total load of tosh..Cosworth have them perfectly designed already:-

2wd 420bhp
4x4 460bhp
EEC4 500plusbhp

You are better off porting the elbow to gain increased flow...that is where it counts.
