Rentons got a Scooby WRX from March 1996. Does it need an SVA or an Enhanced SVA? The forms he has been sent seem to imply he needs an Enhanced one?

oh and one other question. What the fook is an enhanced SVA, coz we have never heard of them

if its a japaneesey import, then it needs an enhanced SVA

www.dvla.gov.uk - goto the SVA pages and you can download a draft copy of the manual

Anything under 10 years old needs an SVA accompanied by an ESVA. Basically you need to buy/rent a model report from a company (best and cheapest is www.modelreports.com). You pay ya Ł250+vat then they send you a sheet of paper saying you are aloud to use model report nunber XXXXXXX. This then lets the SVA centre download a report. If anything from that report is different to the car being tested then they fail it straight away. For the last month I have had grief getting my Honda S2000 through due to this.

Best advice I can offer is take ANYTHING off the car that is non standard (even exhaust, oil catch tanks, air filters etc) and DONT TAKE IT TO CHELMSFORD. They will fail it on the pettiest of things, and the vehicle testers there are all jobworth coonts. I ended up taking the Honda to Southampton - top blokes and are very human!!

Pm me if you want any advice!

Give it to Ryan to do some work on and then it will only need a normal SVA

Its not so much as doing extra work on it it just has to match the model report for that car / year. For example my ECU serial number consisted of 10 digits and the report states that the last digit is a number 1, but mine was a number 2 so they failed it because of this (along with a number of things). So you have to go away (without them giving you fook all advice) and see why. Turns out that mine was a late 2000 model so Honda upgraded the software on the ECU (2 being the new software revision). I had to then get a headed letter from Honda stating this.

Its picky things like this they will pick up on. They even do things like measure the dimensions of hte air filter, the length of the Cat.converter, check various part numbers like the MAP sensor, Fuel pressure reg etc... Proper pointless shite!!
