Default Just been clocked for speeding by a vascar5000 this morning

Just been clocked for speeding by a vascar5000 this morning.

91.92 over 0.262 (think that must be miles)

This is the sequence of events.

The copper told me what I had done and pointed to the mph on the screen.

To which my first question was..

"can you prove that was me ?" - Perfectly reasonable question in the fact that with no evidence there is no case i would have thought

Officer replied "No - I have been doing this x amount of years" and then got the arse

I replied "right, well how do i know that was me then ?" - again another question i thought was perfectly reasonable.

The copper then called me "stevey boy!! - I have no doubt that was you as this was calibrated this morning"

I thought i was fooked to be honest but then i said this

"have you got prove of the calibration so i can have this"

He answered "no"

Then said i could be disqualified for this.

I then said so its a manual calibration test, that you have no proof you have done it

"He said yes"

To which he explained how the vascar work's, first web site i visit i found this....

http://www.radarfalle.de/technik/ueb...nik/vascar.php

Which basically says there is margin for error all over this.

Anyone got any advice ?

No calibration certificate = no evidence = no case to answer. They try to get YOU to incriminate yourself.

Scum.

Go to www.pepipoo.com and ask on there. I've got an ongoing case at the mo and these guys are really switched on!

I never got asked for ID, he asked me if my name was steve and that was about it.

He never asked if it was my car or for any driving license LOL - thought that was odd

I never signed anything.

He also said easy pickings for the officer.
He could not provide me with the calibration details.
He could not prove that was my car's speed on the machine.

Seems very odd to me...

Did he send you away with any paperwork at all? When I got VASCAR'd 7 years ago, I got a long yellow form that I signed in his presence

nothing signed then nothing to worry about - even a verbal NIP requires you to sign a form admitting guilt - don't worry about it - you're fine and will remain fine

Seems like he just stopped you because he wanted to for the sake of wasting your time

Fair play for asking the right questions

I know if it was me, I would just crack under the pressure and end up confessing everything

1 cop or 2 ? if just 1 they cant do you as it wont stand up in court without video evidence, but if 2 then the proof in court that it was you commiting the offence is that the 2nd cop is a witness

write back asking to see the evidence

state that the police officer that pulled you could not provide you with evidence or a callibration cert of the device in question when you were asked.

I am sure that the distance they have to measure your speed over is 1.25 miles.........then "do" you on the average speed over that distance (if over the speed limit).

"I have the wrong gearbox oil in the car at the moment so 92 MPH is as fast as it goes want me to try again tomorrow?"

Perfectly reasonable question

Officer replied

"No - I have been on PassionFord and seen the amount of crap you post "

and then got the arse

The copper then called me "Knob Jockey" and told me to "leave Ranj and Rod alone"

I thought I was fooked to be honest but then I said this

Anyone got any advice ?

I got caught via VASCAR 10yrs back doing 104. At the time I was at Uni and my mechanics lecturer told me he could get the figure under 100mph if I paid for his expenses to go along.

As its a time distance calculator it relies on the officers reaction time on pressing a button when you pass 2 fixed points that he has previously noted the distance between with his freshly calibrated unit. Thats 2 opportunities for him to get it a bit wrong. If you're jsut over 100 then its not hard to see that a few 1/10's of a sec out will push it this way or that.

However I was accelerating at the time racing a Volvo T5. I had the thing off the clock a few mins later and it took a long time for the fuz to catch up. I went to court smartly dressed, appologised for my behaviour and brought a note from Uni saying I needed my car. If I hadnt have already got an SP30 on my license then I think I would have got away with it. As it was I got a 100quid fine and a 1 week ban. No points.

You were doing 90 so suck it up Stevey Boy.

BTW - they generally set the vascar up where your pass under a bridge as seeing where the car breaks a shadow avoids any paralax errors with the car passing an object from the observes point of view so watch out when clogging it where there are alot of bridges.

a good post this, definatly one to save for future referance. Good luck Dingy, I've had 3 NIP's from Gatsos and fought every one, I still have a clean liscence. say this on the form if it's a gatso folks:-

"THE INFORMATION I AM ABOUT TO GIVE IS AGAINST MY EUROPEAN RIGHT TO THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT, FURTHERMORE, BY TELLING MY I HAVE TO GIVE YOU THE INFORMATION YOU ARE PUTTING ME UNDER DURESS WHICH IS ILLEGAL, IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THIS, THEN HERE IS THE INFORMATION YOU REQUIRE"

Then you must fill out the form, as it's illegal not to, and you shouldn't break the law

Cheers for the advice - gonna sit on it and see what happen's

I asked the copper for information and he show'd me total disrespect for questioning me by calling me steveyboy - who the fuck does he think he is my grandma.......

I have not got any information asked for which i feel is wrong so we will have to see.
