The thing that determines the acceleration of a vehicle is the torque@wheels versus the weight (discounting aeroydynamics at this stage as thats a seperate issue but is still related to torque@wheels)
torque@wheels is a product of BHP and NOT a product of torque.

Think about what determines torque@wheels and you will find yourself retracting that quicker than kinga pulled out the wine bottle when she realised her parents might be watching her!
Come on Mike, i KNOW that you have the mental capacity to work out why BHP is so much more important than torque for acceleration without me having to explain it to you like a kid, just sit down and think about it!

Torque @ wheels is a measure of how hard the engine is trying to rotate the wheel, thats what determines how much force is exerted on the car in the first place during acceleration, thats beyond dispute, i assume you agree to that yeah?
Torque @ wheels = torque @ flywheel / gearing
BHP = torque @ flywheel * rpm / 5252
So for any given value of BHP you end up with the same amount of torque@wheels
doesnt matter if its 200bhp@10,000rpm with only 100lbft of torque or 200bhp@5,000rpm with 200lbft of torque, either way its the same resultant torque at the wheels as the 10,000 rpm one has twice the mechanical advantage through the gearbox at any given speed
Very basic stuff that Mike, quite shocked at you not understanding it TBH!

All things equal, like what, being in the same gear at the same speed for two cars with completely different power curves?
Thats like saying "tractors are quicker than motorbikes all things being equal" when asusming that the all things being equal are that both are in a ploughed field towing a trailer full of turnips in 3rd gear doing 800rpm
