How to tell if a S2 is chipped? (ecu pics please)

Default How to tell if a S2 is chipped? (ecu pics please)

right, my boost gauge shows .7 bar, which is roughly 10psi... i thort standared s2's boost at 7 psi? it has a -31, as i have reciept, how can i tell it the fuel (i presume) ecu has been chipped? if i take the cover off, where do i look? what does standard ford chip look like?


any pics of inside standared/ chipped ecu's????

On a standard RST and chip you can run up to approx 10.5psi with a good actuator, if you think it may be chipped though usually if you crack open the ECU, the chip if non standard will usually have the suppliers name on it i.e. superchips, turbosystems etc and will allow more than the std boost limits if this is the case.

Try winding the boost up to 11-12psi and see if the overboost kicks in or not.

how will i know if it kicks in? may sound thick, but do i turn the actuator? how much? which way? is it real pain to do?

Yeah you can turn it up on the actuator, you need to slip the rod off the wastegate and wind it clockwise a couple of threads then get it back on the wastegate, can take a bit of pull but shouldn't be too hard with std actuator, take it out and see how many psi it's reading, if overboost kicks in you'll get a sudden cut of power, you'll definitely know about it, if it keeps on boosting then theres a possibility it may be chipped

best way of describing it is it nearly throws you through the screen

only way to be sure is to post a picture of the rear of the pcb up .. its normally easy to tell as the solder will look different along the main chip ... (this chip has a large metal bracket on top of it)
