Lets be honest if your gonna mod a car it dont wanna be a Ford...the past and future is JAP...the people are a different class as they will spend lots modding..but lets be honest again the cars look a lot better to start with!...Rod is the only MAD man who hangs in there...but it always will fail at a proper event just gone too far.
Please Mike give it up..stop the humiliation the Ford team gets every year..leave it to the pro's......OR just specify max 500bhp and min 400bhp cars only......youd have a load of entries...ok no chance but atleast you have a TEAM.

I saw a lot of Jap boys fail to do well, Rod's failure was unfortunately timed but doesnt take away from the fact that the car IS competitive at the event (not enough to win it, but enough for a good finnish), so i dont think the cossie team should be disbanded.

Sadly TOTB is all about company demo cars and deep pockets these days
Still good fun though!

Its always been about ten of the best.
But it was ten of the best road cars.
Not its ten of the best company demo cars made to look like they are road legal.
Not quite the same!
Not a fault of the event though, thats just the way the world works
IMHO sign writing should be banned from the event, like on a road rally

The winning car was privatley owned, as was the Iceland Scooby, as was the other 9sec Skyline, as was most cars there, many might be covered in graphics but privatley owned and very little percent of the money comes from sponsorship.
Banning tuner entrys wont make it any better or give anyone more of a chance, just would make the Tuner GP event at Donno be more of a sucsess.

Ish,
I PERSONALLY set them, as I wanted to see Cossies up there with the best and not seen as "has beens" and "also rans" by running a less powerful team.
Despite this, we basically only had ten cars that came along to the qualifying (or had done sufficiently good times in the past) and even then, none managed to meet all of the criteria that I had set, but were close enough, that on the day and with the issues resolved that occurred at qualifying, I knew that the people that attended would do us proud.
Unfortunately, some of the people that then qualified didn't get their cheques sent off in time either, and so these spaces had to be given to the queue of reserves that Chris had waiting in the background.
In view of this, I stand by the criteria set, because if I could FORCE the owners of the cars in my "dream team" to enter , we might have even won the team event and maybe even overall if enough points were scored (Ronnie won last year's event without winning the final ).
However, I am glad that we didn't have a list of lower spec cars waiting in the wings, as this year the goal posts had moved so far (as I had already anticipated, hence the more stringent qualifying criteria ), that it would have been TOTALLY embarrassing to the Cosworth mark to field a load of 12-13s cars, when some of the top spec FRONT wheel drive cars were banging out 11s runs, and this was the norm for the "low" spec 4wd cars that were there, where virtually every Scooby and Evo that entered, were putting in 11s runs (or less) and even loads of the rwd cars were as well .
I may be in the minority, but my attitude is that this event is TOTB and the event is taken very seriously by all those that enter. I was speaking to lots of people there that didn't run by choice and even some of the RST peeps that can do consistant 13s runs, felt that (despite being asked to) there was no point in running, as they would only be competing against themselves, as they would not be in the same ball-park as the top cars, and they could do that at a Ł15 RWYB event, rather than humiliating themselves (comparitively speaking) and paying Ł85 for the privalege .

Mike I agree with you on the criteria, hopefully we're going to enter a vauxhall team next year and i will do exactly the same with making critiria so that cars are at least capable of a midfield finnish or not run them at all.

Ish,
I've been hoping for that since the first event . However, the fact that Martin is now more determined than ever to win the WHOLE event (by scoring well in EVERY category), makes me a VERY happy man .

Tony,
Because I really love my car as a road car and drive it 10-12k a year (with trips to
the 'Ring twice a year) and with it being an EECIV car, it is not the best base to start with. To be competitive would require a dog engagement gearbox, which having driven one, I know I couldn't live with it for the mileage I do (sans wife and sprog), as well as requiring 200kg being stripped out of the car, which would just add to the hostile environment this would make the car for long journies.
If money were no object, I would love to build a purpose built track car, that WOULD be competitive, but that would be based on a proper Grp A shell and not a lardy road-going version. In my mind, I already have MY ultimate specced Escort, but it requires a minimum budget of Ł50k and it could easily spiral out of control cost wise like the Norwegian one.
So, I'll stick with what I have until my numbers come up and I can have both...

So Martin is actually just gonna put his ESCOS shell on a Skyline then if he thinks he gonna win anything?
No joke really..as lets sum up..what part will actually be GENUINE Cosworth?Jag Diff/Skyline diff??..Skyline gear box....is the engine actually gonna be YB or millinton?
You see the KEY to success is to bin FORD parts!
(Obviously only talking TOTB type scenario...not Santa Pod against Novas!)

Phil,
The Millington block was sold a LONG while ago and it runs a Ford Motorsport 9" rear diff using a touring car rear beam (I know, 'cos I sorted it for him ), so get with the times .

wasn't getting at you mike just trying to get you to say for all the people out there IT'S MONEY THAT MAKES A FAST CAR
so you can all have one no matter what marque if you get your money out but we all have other things in life that require it like the tax man the wife and the kids or in some cases the boy freind unless you are elton and money isn't an issue for the lover
