Default difference in cossie blocks re: NOISE

since i'm new to the whole cossie thing thought i'd better ask the first of many questions

my engine has a very slight noise on idle ( haven't really noticed it when driving ) guess only way to describe it is a knocking. it's a 2wd saff by the way.

my question is,is this noise normal for the 205 block? i am led to believe it is due to the design of the gudgeon pin?? and the 200 block shouldn't have this problem due to differences in design.

am i talking bollox

can't find any info

the gudgeon pin isn't extactly central in the piston, ie the conrod doen't sit exactly in the middle on the positon therefore it moves or some thing

On 2wd central gudgeon pin so get piston slap, but later cars have offset pins so should not suffer from it

The 205 suffers from piston slap when cold, once the piston expands a bit it should dissapear.

It will idle perfectly when when warm though.

The 4x4 200 blocks had an off-set gideon pin to rectify this by pushing the piston up one side of the bore thus elimitating the piston slap.

*This is out of Andys memory which is a mess most of the time so may not be 100% true

What is the milage then? Has it had a rebild?

As said above the 4x4 ones were slightly offset and I haven't had this problem since I rebuilt mine with the 4x4 pistons instead of 2wd (not available anymore)

it has had a rebuild, but i haven't got receipts to show it as far as i know.mileage is about 88k.

Andy Fisher ( cosworth expert at brooklyn ) has had a good look over it and said it's normal but would like to know if anyone else has this noise and all is well.

It could be tappets... or little ends.... but its probably just good old piston slap!

Does the noise go away if you rev it up a little say to 1500 rpm?

little ends , remember when i took my engine apart to remove my little end rattle, just cause i was bored and thought "why not"

turns out the piston on number 3 was offset, the rod was making it off set and making my little end rattle, the little ends are fine though

shame the rods, pistons and block are fooked

mate if its a small noise then dont worry about it, if it does keep anoying ya turn up the stereo, all cossies do is give ya heart problems, just drive it and dont touch it until a piston has popped out to ask for some time off, or ya will end up with a cossie ornament just like i have

serious though, unless the cars not running right and the oil presure is fine then drive the car and enjoy it
