Default Building Society Cheque

for ebay item.

Is this secure? Or do i wait till it has cleared? Am i right in thinking it is issued?

Phone the building society that issued it and confirm it is genuine!
Back in the 80's when i was a car dealer i bought an RS1600i off a geezer for 4.5k who it turned out had bought it the day before with a dodgy b/s cheque!

i always wait till cheques have cleared ..no matter what .... deffo fone the issuing building society...

Caution Rick........get it cleared into your account.

Someone can give you a Building Society cheque, get the goods off you and then they can phone up the building soc and say that they have lost the cheque (or say that it was stolen) and get it cancelled - very easy to do

Some banks even require up to 5 working days for a bankers draft (Woolwich for one) but any certified cheque should be fully cleared before releasing goods and if buyer makes an issue of your stance tell them to do a sameday funds transfer.
