Default Focus RS vs Evo 6

Ok has anyone ever raced a standard evo 6 around a track in a focus RS?

how far behind would the Focus be? What level of tune would be needed to stand a chance? Would i be totally embarassed by one if both of us were "newbies" on a track?

what if the evo was say 350hp?

Discuss

on the top gear powerlaps thingy the Focus RS is only 3.3secs slower than an Evo 8....so surely can be attainable will a little more horses. And isnt the evo 8 quicker than the 6 anyway?

just wondering really, a mate has a 350hp evo 6 but said a totally standard 6 would really embarass a Focus RS around a track. I of course disagreed.

Sure as standard the 6 is faster but i didnt believe it would totally spank the RS.

After all on the topgear powerlap thing the evo 8 (which i presume is quicker than evo 6) was only 3.3 secs quicker with a professional race driver.

I was just wondering with 2 inexperrienced "track day drivers" how it would go.

guess i need some humble pie and a can of "stop talking sh!t"

I know a 6 as standard is quicker i just didnt think i would be totally embarassed if we raced 2 standard cars on a track. oh well

I think you'd need to take a wheel off the EVO if you wanted to get a Focus to stay in front !!

I've currently got a 330 bhp Escos and an EVO8 FQ300; the EVO is always miles in front, that's not to say its more fun though cos the Escos has more character....

the evo can be very quick even with just a reasonable river as the electronics help massively, and the ford, well its electronics are in the stereo

three seconds is an absolute age on that track - tbh a FWD car with a fair amount less HP does not stand much chance against a super computer like the Evo

Saw a GGR modded (circa 300hp) with susp mods vs a STD EVO VI TME (except for filter and exhaust) at Cadwell that and the EVO was destroying the Focus. The two owners are brothers from Grantham that do rally prep. Focus was despatched to Junkyard 28 about a month later in p/x for the 22b they had.

never driven a Focus RS but its got 2 things missing that will leave it far behind most EVO's

1) 4 wd (the most important thing)
2) lots of BHP and Torque less than most EVO's.

Just my 2p.
2 years ago at Croft i was out-dragging Evo's down the start-finish straight in my stg 1 saff, obviously they blitzed me at the next bend and i've also been severly embaressed by a few Focus RS's round Donington etc, they do go round bends VERY well for FWD.
So to the original question,i'm not so sure.

someone was telling me that when the Focus RS was launched, ford took it to a track day (or someone did) and it was lapping quicker than most of the Escort Cossies.....but aparently the Focus had a proper race driver in it. (not sure if thats true though)

when the focus rs was on top gear they put it up against a scoobie wrx and the frs was over 3 seconds quicker round the track so dont be too sure a standard evo 6 would win

Mr Clarkeson (who hates the FRS) quoted that the RS beats Evo's round their test track on one of his DVD's, so perhaps it is quicker than the old Evo's? I would like to think mine would do ok against a mid powered one (mines 280-290BHP). Before I fiitted my manifold mine pulled distance on a mates P1 from 30-155.

The FRS handles amazingly for FWD but the 4x4 + they drive themselves factor will help your mate!!

I had a blat with an Rs Focus in my old Evo 6 (350 bhp, so not totally fair) but he was left far far behind, this compromised of B roads and some straight roads, if you could beat a 350 bhp Evo round the track in a Focus, i'll eat my air filter

Bone dry track, stick the Focus on slicks, leave the EVO on road tryes, and it might be a bit more even

I know it's not the same but wasn't the Focus RS 3 seconds faster round the Top Gear track than the Subaru Impreza STi? I know Evo's are a better car than the Subaru tat but are they THAT much better? (genuine question BTW just curious)

Come on mate, V-TEC is awesome, really puts you back in ya seat!!

They do go well in all fairness.

Don't like the sound of standard vs standard, modded RS vs standard Evo sounds a bit more like it!!
