Default MISFIRE PROBLEM

Right i was wondering if anyone can help as i feel like punching my car! the problem is that when its starts come under load (ie when the boost kicks in)it just misfires big time and the rev counter starts flicking all over place it also some times cracks a loud bang out of exhaust and the most annoying thing is,is that it does not do the problem all the time but most of it. i took it some wher and he checked every thing under bonnet and he says that it is deffo nout under there, also have had the ecu checked and thats fine.so any ideas would be really apperacited as im going mad

Hello mate , I had that same problem a few months back, it had something to do with my fuel lines around the fuel Pump, one of the seals had perished , so the kid who does my car took it out and put it in a cup of boiling hot water then refitted it, and I swear to god it fucking worked,

If I read correctly it only happens when it comes on heavy boost, if so then that is exactly what happened to mine.

Hope its been a help and honestly I m teling the truth

I would look at the spark plugs first mate. check the gaps, it may be blowing out the spark.

i had the same prob and on number 4 the tip had broken off, lucky for me it came straight out the exhaust. changed the plugs and it runs like a dream...

ya if you just bring it into to the boost real gradually but dont floor it and dont take it more than 3 and a half or 4 thousand revs it does not really do it.but when you just deck it,it nearly puts you through window.but on saturday it only did it twice so i made the most of it but now its back to normal misfiring like i wont say what

Youre describing exactly what mine done, although the plugs would be a sensible first check.

right - first things first

Check the crank position sensor on the front of the engine - make sure this is clean and free from debris, is not damaged and that the wiring is spot on.

Then check the Phase Sensor inside the distributor and make sure that this is gapped correctly.

if you have replaced the ht leads plugs, cap, rotor arm and coil then thats good but to me, i'd put money on it been the crank sensor breaking down.

Bad connection in the plugs on the firewall are a 90% probability pal.
Failing that, run a new earth lead from plenum to battery and then battery to ignition amplifier.

4x4?
The clue is in the mental dancing tacho
no harm checking the crank and phase sensors as suggested, but my 90% is on this too. 85% of it is on the multiplug nearest the battery with the thick wires in (we're talking about the three multiplugs on the bulkhead above the back of the engine) - split the connector and check that the pins are clean, then plug it in and out a few times. Do the other two as well. Also check the condition of the earth tag connections on the brown wires that bolt onto the plenum chamber, and if you can as Stu says make up a stout earth lead and run directly from battery negative to the point where the brown earth wires bolt on the plenum.

Also double check the connections to the ignition amplifier and coil.

Are you using standard ford leads? does your set set up include green injectors and a 3 bar map sensor?

Tansey - Does your car have a multicoloured cam cover?

No relevance to your post, but I think it's my mate's old car

If it is the same, it used to have a similar problem - think a new MAP sensor cured it

Neil.

neil s hollo. no it had a silver cam cover when i bought it but i bought it off dunc (dunccoss) who is the chairman of the northants group. i have just sorted the problem a few hours ago,the the ht lead was to close to the map sensor which fook knows how that would of been thought of if it was not for dunc.
