I have a GGR item, breaths both sides of block, now has a PROPER return to sump and vents to atmosphere via a catch tank on inner wing which never collects oil...

Hi Mate

Martin h and myself use the same type of system except that ours is made by Tarcal and we don't use a catch tank because the system is that good it breaths /returns the oil back to the sump

Mike

The wrc one that you are on about works exactly the same as ours nothing special just common sence

I don't know how much bhp that they are rated at , Tarcal told me even if your engine could rev to 11,000 rpm they are still able to do the job without loseing oil

mine has been on the car for yrs never i haven't ever had a problem with oil or breathing neither has Martin H so they do work very well

I think GGR breather is made by Tarcal anyway

Dave you flid, the breather itself is only £300, it's just the machining costs / labour and aeroquip required to fit it that take the price up to £1k - can't you read?

ok

£300 for the breather

lets say looking at that pic....

2 x -12 fittings.. say £30 each
1 x -10 fitting .. say £25
suitable length of -12 hose .. £65
" " of -10 hose .. £35

lets add another £100 incase ive issed anyother bits

thats £585

are you telling me that machining the block and fitting labour is £415!

im assuming vat is in there somewhere.. but more than likely not added

so your own pale white ass!

Dave,
I know you're a bit simple, so here is a list of the things you clearly overlooked, despite it being blatantly clear in black and white . Removing the sump, cleaning the sump, welding the two required fittings on to the sump, refitting the sump, removing the ENTIRE inlet system, modifying the block (which has to be drilled and tapped to fit the breather), modifying the dipstick etc., the THREE lengths of aeroquip, the THREE sets of fittings (obviously you can't read ), refitting the entire inlet system.

Obviously this would be easier and less labour on a 2wd, but removing the sump on a 4x4 is a 'mare .

mike, i accounted for the fittings and the lengths of hose you GOON maybee it's YOU that should read whats clear in black and white!

as for removing the ENTIRE inlet system!

no WAY!

surley not a boost hose, 10 nuts and the one under the throttle body!!

anyway, that kind of breather is they type that will only be fitted when an engine is built... so the inlet wont be on anyway! OR the bloody head!

spaz merchant!

Dave,
Well if you can't see the amount of labour involved in RETRO-fitting one (which is what is being talked about here, so stop trying to move the goal-posts ). Also, you accounted for only TWO sets of fittings / aeroquip hose .

Anyway, here is the item in question in all it's glory. Shame such a thing of beauty is completely hidden .

Definitely one of them for you Mike

However, the labour time on removing a 4x4 sump and inlet manifold will more than make up the additional cost, so I'd take one of these back to you Dave

Mike, have you ever considered actually working on your own car, then the labour cost is nothing not matter how long it takes, plus its actually enjoyable anyway!

Lol, shame though, i cant see the point in only enjoying half a hobby and to me cars are as much about working on them as driving them.

Also its the only way to ever have knowledge that does more than scratch the surface TBH

I've built my saff, and as much as I do sometimes enjoy working on, there's a part in me that's getting to the point where I'd rather just pay someone else to do it!

The time spent working on the car certainly does not balance out without the enjoyment of driving it at this point in time.

no mike, i listed 1.5 metres of -12 (hence the higher cost) and 1 metre of -10

more than enough for something directly on the block!

i assume you can wrap aeroquip with tape and hacksaw it to the correct length!

Chip,
There are quite a few things I do on my own car, removing the sump would NOT be one of them . Anything that gets your more dirty / bruised / skinned knuckles than removing the rear diff, is when I pass it over to someone else , not because I couldn't, but I just wouldn't chose to do it. Even the likes of Harvey groans at certain jobs (a 4x4 sump being one of them, especially when a drive-shaft gets stuck ) .

Dave,
I might cut myself .

Oh well, at least you do some stuff then i guess.

I like the dirty jobs and TBH my hands are pretty much permenantly covered in cuts/burns/bruises anyway now so ive just got so used to it being like that now, that it would feel weird if they werent

Well my post has had lots of attention so it saves me looking throught pages of posts trying to find it

Makes a nice change actaully

My problem is that my dad decided he wanted the drive block paving which isnt cosworth friendly or work friendly, si i now need a house of my own with a suitable garage but this seems impossible owning a cosworth!!

Good job ive got a good friend who lets me use his yard to work on my car, i agree its good fun doing the stuff yourself and you know exactly whats being done

Flock me with a big stick...

Thought id ring turbo systems to get a price for a breather system made by tarcal!

£800 for single tank in jic
plus extra £400 for two tanks.

Thats a piss take £1200 quid for a breather system.

Think ill get one drom GGR for 590 with all the fittings!!

Wildheart how much was yours from Turbosystems ?

Jase,
I thought you had already purchased the sort that I currently have on my car, and I find that if it is fitted in the way that I have suggested to you, that it is VERY good .

I'm only going to go for the WRC one next time my engine is out, as the cost of retro fitting it is pointless, and I only want the WRC one because I want to declutter my engine bay sufficiently to allow the fitting of a strut brace....

Yeah it did chip,im not to fussed on price i just want a good system that works well!!

I reckon that bloke from turbosytems had got some morgage re-payments this month or summat because it just seemed very expensive for basicly the same kit as ggr.
