Its a long story and i dont really wanna tell anyone about it, but I have a hotmail e-mail address of some prick and i just wondered if there is any way of tracing it...without aid of the police as they dont seem interested...

i don't know what i want, just some information on the bastard, any ideas..if its (whatever "it" is) possible??

Check profile first: http://members.msn.com/whoever@hotmail.com (change "whoever" for their actual address).

If there's nothing on that, then there's very little you'll be able to do. The police are really the only people who can formally request Hotmail release identity details to them for an investigation, as the Data Protection Act will prevent Hotmail from releasing details to anyone else.

You could report the email-address to Hotmail, but based on past experience, they'll either do nothing or just remove the person's account but let them re-register another new account straight away...

Kim there is a way to trace the IP address through the headers in a hotmail email, all you need is an email sent to you from the person to get it.

If you are lucky they will have sent it from a work pc and you may be able to trace who it is through their Company. Enter the IP address onto the RIPE site and it'll trace it as best it can for you.

It is a long shot but its worked for me in the past, should have seen the poor sods face when I told him I knew what he'd been sending!!!!!! lol

To cut a long story short - we think this guy is a phedophile...i fell into his trap of meeting him, (i totally fooking embarrased that i fell for it, but hey its done)...police wont do shit about it, because he didn't turn up - although he was there because he was kind enough to send me an e-amil when i got back....

He started e-mailing me at work today winding me up...its getting to me know BIG TIME

What I meant was he has to have sent en email from the account, ask your IT dept at work to locate the senders IP address for you hun

It might be a dead end as if he's sent it from a home connection it harder to trace (but not impossible).

Absolute bollox, blocking email address's is a bloody simple job get back onto your IT guys or HR and complain about email harressment they have a obligation to put a stop to it

copy n paste up the MIME header on here (right click, properties / options / more / whatever is at the bottom of the list) can do what clare said from that...

ive done it before when sum1 emailed the personell dept from where i used to work pretending to be from the RSOC reporting me for using work pcs to give people abuse... managed to trace it back to an address
