Default cossie tuning guide

Whats the correct order for tuning cossies.
Got one coming with 265bhp - chip, filter, exhast. Whats next if and when I get bored. (Unlikely)
Looking for mods that are safe, not things that will melt a piston or blow the turbo to peices etc etc.
Wanna be able to keep up with if not beat Scooby UK 300

4x4 or RS500 intercooler is a good idea.

Make sure its running 15psi held as thats what a stg1 car should.

Everything is safe unless setup wrong, if a piston goes its cause it was underfueling like a coont.

A well setup stg1 saff will piss a UK300 anyhow from a rolling start.

If u want more power then either a NMS super stg1 which would give u 300+bhp on std inj, or get a set of greeens etc and get a stg3 conversion- 300-350bhp (providing you get a T34 etc if you want more than about 300)

Breather system will come in handy at that power too.

Would also recommend a grp 'a' headgasket as well. A multi-layer 1 would be better but not essential for a stg 3.

there's no real set path to follow... as many of the methods are completely different if you want 280bhp than if you want 400bhp (and it'd be a waste of money goin to 280 THEN jump to 400)

decide what power you want then you can work out the cheapest/safest way of getting that power...

A stage 1 Sapphire will absolutely KILL a UK 300. I know this for a fact (we own one - 240bhp/261lbft and 1400kg) .

My next door neighbour has a brand new UK300 and took it to prodrive for the "tune up"
He said it's 305bhp but didnt mention if that was tested or not.
I reckon I want around 300bhp - 330bhp at the fly.
Got a mate with a standard Escos who wont mod it so would be nice to have something that can get one over there as well.

Steve,
Can't you read?

Matty,
Your mate is full of shit, as the 240bhp/261lbft figure I quoted, is AFTER the Prodrive "tune up", as standard they are only 218bhp . The standard turbo would not produce 305bhp - it is like an EECIV Escort in this respect. Without changing the turbo and injectors, you could see 275bhp, but it would mean removing all the cats and is something Prodrive wouldn't do, as they keep everything emissions compliant.

Matt, Glenns car is an embarrassment to the name 'cosworth' and is quite possibly the slowest car I have ever been in. He won't even put clear side repeaters on it
UK 300 at our rolling road day made 242.2bhp- about the same as a garden leaf blower, and that had had the 'poo-drive 300bhp '- upgrade
Warrens car is not bad as it is- nicely set up- albeit a while ago and for 261bhp stage 1 a nice drive.
I'd get used to it first TBH no point in having a 330bhp dead cosworth
Get a few of the other bits sorted first like the suspension, as the 'going round corners' bit will need looking at I think it will need a set of shocks without a doubt.

Well Chris, he's got the springs I'll be requiring some shocks - hint hint.
Then gonna get some wheels - again be coming your way for those.
Spend some time getting used to it as you say first and getting up to a standard where it's very clean and tidy. (Not gonna take much)
Then look in to possibly tuning it up.

I don't think he fitted the springs yet, so if he gives 'em with the car, I'll sort you out some shocks. I remember going to buy the car with warren, and you're right it is a really nice one, and only needs a few bits to make it 100% Won't cost much either Rear shocks defo

they only made 300 of them - they are only a spoilered up version of a normal turbo - they did a prodrive upgrade which took it to about 245 -

Chris, for now he's changed his mind again and is keeping it. Doesnt matter as he WILL change his mind again at least three times before I can even buy it any way.
Your right, he hasnt fitted the springs there at home. I think either springs or shocks are a bit knackered cause it seems too low for a standard car. Also bit harsh on Glens car! - If you want slow I'll take you for a spin in mine. Well it's slow compared to a Cossie!
Mike Rainbird - he's not my mate - he just lives next door to me. He hasnt got a "scooby" excuse the punn. He has a horrid graphic on the bonnet, undercar neons, no sign of a dumpvalve and horrifically tinted windows. On a brand new Scooby. Also has two England flags attached to the rear windows!

There is a little bit more to them than that .

They also have the Prodrive light upgrade, STi style seats and Prodrive 18" wheels (plus the front and rear spoilers you mention).

Also the OFFICIAL figures are 240bhp / 261lbft for the PPP.

Chris,
The 300bhp increase is only the STi PPP . The standard UK cars only go to the 240/261 figure.

I know that, you know that, and pro-drive know that......I just wish the Subaru Car salesmen did, and stopped telling their unsuspecting purchasers a load of bollocks!!!
