Removing ABs on the Series 2!
How much am I looking at for parts to get the ABs ripped out and how long would it take a garage to do? (So I can work out labour charge)
OR
Is it a job that can be done at home with the Haynes?

Do you know of anybody in the Midlands area who would for a decent price and would probably fit a clutch while they are at it?

Adam you have to have at least two new lines made up?? Unless Gadget reused the old lines somehow?
Anyway you need the following:
XR3i Fluid Resevior = £5 from your local scrappy
2No. Brake lines to run from your master cylinder to the two t-Pieces on each inner wing. = £5/10 from a local motor factors
Brake fluid = £10
The other option is to make the lines up yourself which is actually very easy to do [using copper] and I do it myself at home. You'll need the following:
20ft brake hose [or less if you find somewhere that will cut it to length] = £10
A mini-pipe cutter = £4
A pipe flaring tool = approx £20
Bear in mind you know own the tools so can do any brake lines in future.
I reckon any competent garage is gonna charge about 4 hours labour if you don't fancy getting your hands dirty.

Hi dudes,
You don't need any new brakes lines made up, once the whole lot is removed, you end up with 4 pipes unconnected, 2 of them join up to each other, just need re bending into shape to line up and the other two also join together, you just need one new end, a female m10x1 connector, i usually yake the line off from the master cylinder then get the local motor spares shop to just supply the new end and re flare the pipe! then you don't have any of that damn ugly copper pipe in the engine bay!
You don't NEED a new resevoir, you can loop the two connectors together with the old plastic pipe shortened or put the proper bungs in, makes no difference!!
it takes a good couple of hours on your back under the car and you need to take the drive shafts out to remove the modulator brackets completely which then also means re filling the box afterwards!!
It is a simple task but quite fiddly as in an MFI innjected car, there is soooo much pipe work in the way!!
Hope this sheds some light and helps out??

1. You don't have to bodge the standard resevoir using old bits of tube and bolts/circlips etc... whats the point when you can get the right part for £5??
2. As for the break pipes...doing it the way you do it means you have brake pipes running all over the place with bits of flexy connecting them together/ and brackets that aren't needed...its just messy imo when you can do the job properly cheaply

COCK - Can you not read?? where have i used flexi pipes??
The original pipes that are left in place, join together, one just needs re bending!! and one need a new end on it, no flexi pipes, no copper pipes, no extra pipes!!
Yes, the non abs resevoir looks better, but if somneone asks me to do the job and doesn't supply me with one, i won't fit one

Gadget...I don't think theres any need to call me a COCK [Internet warrior alert]
Its a difference of opinion thats all no need to get emotional
I assumed you utilised the flex hoses that go into the pumps to connect it up... I just think its neater fitting new dedicated lines

Ok, so that was out of line, Sorry
Just trying to get the point across that you don't need any new lines and you can do it using the old ones, and it will look factory ( if you cange the resevoir to a non abs item! )
