Just been advised to buy one , and due to my on going temp guage readings and blowing water out of my header tank/cap at high speeds , so now bought new cap to fit my spec-r- tank today and was advised to put a new thermostat in her nooow what exactly will this do for me and excuse my dumbness but i dont really know the full workings behind the "thermostat" to be honest

i took mine out when i modded the housing for the turbo water feed. no probs so far but dont know if its recommended or not

You should always run a thermostat imo, it keeps the engine coolant at the correct temp (well, controls the flow etc..) - unless of course you have a problem somewhere.

a thermostat slows water flow upto a certain temperature.

the idea behind it is to allow the water temp inside the engine to reach running temps quicker and cause less wear on the engine. When the water reachs running temp (mines 88 degrees) it opens and allows more water to flow through to the radiator.

if someone has removed it it is usually cos the car is running to hot and there is a problem elsewere.

I run a thermostat now and my temps stay on 88 -90 degrees all the time.

doesnt go up doesnt go down just stays at perfect operating temp.

btw my cossie thermostat opens at 88 degrees.

If you have heating problems fwithout a thermostat fitting one will more than likely make it worse.

You need to find were the overheating problem is coming from

i removed the 2 steel outlets from the housing, welded em up & then welded one central alloy take off to the turbo. this is directly in between where the thermostat used to sit. Head gasket is the usual overheating prob with them

Another common overheating cause is a build up of sludge in the end caps of the radiator , ive seen this many times ! Pop the plastic caseings off and have a look .

Well guys fitte new thermostat and new header tank cap and my car runs sooo much better and seems to be cooler thannkkk god guage has came down a good bit now as well oohh my old thermostat was a bit knackered by the looks of it but expalin this why was there 2 small holes drilled in it ant each edge any reason

stu at msd advised me to get an 82 degree (i think) thermestat for me 2wd saph but the local ford dealer only list 1 for a 2wd and there is no mention of what temp it opens at. Any ideas what stat i need

is that a standard 2wd stat cause if so i cant see it being any different to the 1 thats in the car. The only advantage will be that the spring will be stronger as its newer
