Glad to see you have got yourselves a banner for this site as it will be worth its weight in gold to your company

Hi Tiff,

Many thanks for your kind comments.

We collected enough business last year under our Passion Ford pilot to analyse and develop other schemes.

Our scheme coverage has been improved and now we have gone for a banner and full trader status to promote.

Thanks for spreading the word - Your recommendations are very much appreciated buddy and if ever I can be of assistance you know where I am.

Kindest regards

Tony

It is good to see that you/ your company are showing that there are people behind the keyboards by posting on PassionFord. I think that is a very good thing.

Keep up the good work..................OH, and give Marco a quote or i will never hear that last of it

Most Underwriters (Greenlight or other) love rural england more than life itself.

They all track their statistics by 'claim frequency' and due to population density it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out that the frequency will be higher in a city area.

What compounds this further is the 'compensation culture' that exists within our country. The 'oh great ive been hit by someone and will claim for whiplash to get a few quid' may seem good, but this all has to be funded by someone and the buck stops with Insurers who foot the bill for injury compensation and often substantial solicitors fees.

If Underwriters consistently lose money in an area they will not subsidise these days either, the market's too competitive. They will rate every area on actual results and if its really bad they will exclude the area.

I grew up in East London (Upton Park) when I was young and can sympathise with the area thing.

It's not personal with Underwriters, they're stats guys and treat everything black and white based upon fact or prior results.

I'm happy to try and obtain cover for you, and unlike Liverpool not all of birmingham is highly rated. Also, if your vehicle security and garaging arrangements are good then this is a major plus when writing city business.

Pop a quote online and PM me your actual name so I can look out for it, or call Neil tomorrow and see whether we can put a smile on your face

Kindest regards

Tony

Tony,

do you have a "multiple RS household" policy ?

Having two sierra cosworths, it would be nice to get some further discount if both are insured with the same company

Hi Al,

"Classic" car policies are intended for vehicles that have been restored or renovated, but retained the original specification.

A number of brokers seem to have been somewhat liberal with the use of their classic car schemes, which has led to cheap premiums for alleged "classic" cars.

Whilst this seems great short term, as soon as Insurers wise up and audit this business (probably following poor claims performance or rubbish profitability due to not collecting enough premium for the risks) they will withdraw the facility from offending brokers and be reluctant to distribute again.

With regard to you own personal circumstance, we do have a "custom" car underwriter that would look to accomodate and provide a quotation, but the stumbling block would be the £30k value for a mk1 Escort.

Dominion are the RSOC approved Insurer and usually pretty mods friendly, but you will find the very same problem with most Insurers.

We do cover vehicles for Motorsport use at this value level, but in order to proceed with a custom car quotation at that value we will need to assess and present photocopies of all expenses (ie. original purchase receipt for car plus mods receipts). Once we have this we will then refer your vehicle to Lloyds of london on a bespoke basis.

A good starting point would be to contact Neil in my office and explain that youve spoken to me briefly on here. Then we can assess properly and attempt to get you a quotation.

Kindest regards

Tony

Hi Frog,

Having given some thought to your multi-vehicle request, we do have an underwriter that would consider and has recently promoted a 'multi-vehicle' policy.

This is not common within the overall Insurance market due to the fact that most underwriters have a particular niche that they wish to cover and unless (like you) both vehicle's are of a similar nature they are not usually competitive for both cars.

For example, the usual request for a multi vehicle would be a work van & performance car combination. The problem that exists is that most commercial insurers dont like sports cars and vice versa.

Your case however is different in as much as both vehicles are similar and i'm confident that we can help you.

Another option that we have with some of our underwriters is a "no claims bonus match" facility, which in laymans terms means that if you've earned bonus upon one vehicle (providing your claims history is ok) we can credit the same % discount to other vehicles that you drive.

We will look at all options and discuss them with you, simply call us on 01277 263030 and we will do our best to help you.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Frog,

We look forward to hearing from you nearer the time, but i'm sure that we can do something extra. Especially as youre looking to put several cars on cover.

In the meantime take care (ie. stay away from tempting fate) & we'll catch up when you need us.

Kind regards

Why is it taking so long to do my quote?

I only asked you to quote me for a 350bhp, £13,000, 18 year old Escort... It can't be THAT hard?

I've done mine..ubt there 's no boxes to write what mods are done, just engine-wise: BHP at the flywheel. How do you know what other mods are done to the car, to be able to assess the quote properly ??

This is on my Vectra btw...but used passionford as the reference.

Now you know why I have been recommending Greenlight for the last three years . Never had the pleasure of dealing with Tony, but Neil understood all about the modifications carried out on my Escort and it was actually like talking to a proper petrol-head, instead of an insurance bod (not that that made parting with the money any less painful, but at least you feel in safe hands ).

Just out of interest Tony, so we can formalise an idea of what peeps we're dealing with, what car's do you and Neil own?

Greenlight were fantastic on my cossie, UNTIL I sold the car and changed it for something else

They refused to swap my fully paid up (£1200) policy onto a non-performance car, forcing me to cancel 4 months into it and I lost 1/3 of the total premium as a cancellation charge, £85 of which was Greenlights commission, the rest was the standard 40% charge from the Insurance Company.
Ok I should have read the small print before taking out the policy, but the policy should also have stated that aswell as loosing 40% for cancelling 4 months into it, you ALSO loose the amount Greenlight make in commission.

Im sure for those people who run their policies for the full term they are very good, they've just left me a bad taste in my mouth

out of interest, what are people getting quoted for say a stg.1 Sapph?
I'm getting around £690 against ~£420 from Dominion... just seems like a lot of difference for a good risk (I'm old , no bad history, garage, good postcode... etc) and I get inclusive breakdown + recovery at the moment too.

Clare, I am sorry you were unhappy with us. I would like to point out that we do state in our documentation that we do retain our commission, this is a quite a standard industry practice.

Obviously we cannot work for free and if we refunded commission on every cancelled policy, we would not be in business long.

We only sell annual policies and do not arrange short period cover.

If we could avoid cancelling policies we would but unfortunately we have to follow the guidelines set out by the insurer.

I am sorry we could not retain your business.

Ryan,

mate... we dont normally cover drivers without bonus, so I did the best I could with what I had to work with

Covering 3dr cossies for drivers under 25 without a driver history or ncb are never going to be cheap to cover

One year's actual ncb (not earned under so called "classic" policies or 10mth policies) would make a world of difference and unfortunately its a case of biting the bullet at some stage.

If you keep your nose clean on the claims front, next yr you'll be 25 with a years ncb and looking at a saving of just over half the premium !!

Kindest regards

Tony

Thanks for your kind words of praise.

Here is a picture of my car, since the picture was taken I have fitted an Invidia Titanium exhaust and PRM intake

Here is a picture of my other form of transport (125cc race go-kart)

I know neither of these are Fords but my girlfriend has a new Fiesta Zetec S that I drive regularly....Its a great little car.

Thing is though, although every single part of the car is cossie spec or higher, its a 1.6GL according to the logbook as its been reshelled into a 1.6GL shell, and only legal way to do so is to keep the 1.6GL identity.

It owes me about 10 grand now, but im sure the RSOC would value it at about 20pence as it doesnt have an RS logbook, so where would i stand for an agreed value policy on a such a bastardised vehicle?

Im 30, rural postcode, and full no claims
BTT for reply to that.

Neil/Tony - is the figure I've been quoted of £690 realistic under this scheme for a Stage1 4x4 sapphire? It just seems a lot to me for a risk that's about as good as it gets, and a lot of other people appear to have great success with their quotes.. ?

I have also been with greenlight for the last 3 odd years .... I have nothing but praise for them (I am fortunate enough NOT to have had to claim) ... Renewals are ALWAYS competetive, (I always ring round ) Staff are always quick courtious and helpful (they also ring you back when they say they will) ...

I phoned up earlier on in the year to add a driver to my scheme (female 25+), was 100 odd summat quid for the remaining six months, which I thought was fair enough (she's managed at LEAST 80 miles since then, so excellent value )

I will be in touch shortly to add some mods (I hope I will be just as happy once thats done )

TonyTurbo... £13k??? bit of a reserved estimate is it not?..
